Re: MOSQUITOES

Well, its worth a try...

By the way, are mosquito coils toxic and health hazardous?

Yes, just read in the papers yesterday that mosquito coils & sprays are not safe for unborn babies & children. Scary considering I use 2 katols a day for outdoors & spray the inside of the house at least once a week. I'm very paranoid with the increase in dengue cases, and I have 2 kids in the house. Turns out my measure against dengue was harming them too.
Here's the article: http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/breakingnews/metro/view/20100915-292362/Home-pesticides-harmful-to-unborn-babies-says-expert

Here's another DIY project that will attract & trap mosquitos. Materials are brown sugar, yeast, water, soda bottle.

Will try this one & the dishwashing liquid, then I'll give you guys a feedback .

Re: MOSQUITOES

AND THE RESULTS ARE IN! As I promised I did actual testing of the 2 DIY mosquito traps: yeast/water/sugar & water/joy.

Unfortunately, none of them worked.

I tried them both in our garage where I find a lot of mosquitoes. Tried them on different days, 48 hours each.

The yeast/water/sugar trapped 1 ant & 2 UFIs (unidentified flying objects, but looked like small gamu-gamo), while the water/joy trapped nothing but dust.

Thanks Nic!
Saved us the trouble of doing everything all over again.
Regards to you and yours..

Re: MOSQUITOES

this message was passed to me, i am about to test it...hope you DIYers could do parallel test with me. I would appreciate feedback..Thanks

Who likes Mosquitoes?

So you don't like those pesky mosquitoes.

Here's a tip that was given at a recent gardening forum.

Put some water in a white dinner plate (I suppose a small white platito will do) and add a couple drops of Lemon Fresh Joy Dish Washing Liquid. Set the dish on your porch, patio, picnic table, park bench, or other outdoor area.

Not sure what attracts them, the lemon smell, the white plate color, or what, BUT ... mosquitoes flock to it, and drop dead shortly after drinking the Lemon Fresh Joy & water mixture, and usually within about 10 feet of the plate.

TRY IT --- it works just super! It may seem trivial, but it may also help to control mosquitoes around your home, (especially in areas where the dengue and malaria carrying mosquitoes are reaching epidemic proportions).

Pass this on to anyone who likes sitting out in the evening, or when they're having a cook out.

It's safer than mosquito coils - no offensive odor and harmful fumes, not risk of fire.

Yes I find this tip very interesting, I showed this anti mosquito tip to my wife the other day and she was surprised with this very simple concoctions of water and lemon fresh joy
washing liquid could be effective against mosquitos.
Though we don't have dengue carrying mosquitoes around here, still there are plenty of mosquitoes in our place specially during late afternoons when the sun is already going down.
I guess its due to the fact that our house is surrounded by various tress and plants wherein
most mosquitoes wood also lay their eggs.

Right now we have some white plates scattered around the house with the anti mosquito mixture in it and doing experimentation on what will be more effective against mosquito, the mosquito coils or the water and lemon joy mixture.

Yes that's the one that I tried. Didn't work, and now I have a whole bag of yeast that I have no use for...
