Feb 15 ... planted my first seedlings (bush sitao) into pvc pots ... one week later, (Feb 21) their large enough to be transplanted to a garden plot ... as of today, the 10 bush sitao plants are already growing great 🙂 he he he ... last week (Feb 22) i started planting some new seedlings ... green chilli, bell pepper, and cucumber ... this week (Feb 28) i transplanted the cucumbers (10 pcs) to a garden plot ... for the green chilli and the bell pepper, only 2 pots started to germinate out of the 20 pots ... don't know which seeds survive 🙂 ha ha ha ... i have to repeat the planting of the seedlings again yesterday and added some tomatos ... hopefully by next week the seeds should have germinated ... crossing my fingers to see what happens next week ... cheers

Updates as of Mar 08 2014 ...
- the pechay seedling after 1 week are doing great, almost all of them has germinated and has grown 2 leaves ; i should be able to transplant them next sunday once they have grown a little bigger ...
- the upo seeds are doing great and should be ready for transplant next sunday also once they are bigger ...
- the tomato (diamante breed) are also doing great and has started to germinate ...
- the green chilli and the sweet bell pepper have not yet germinated after 1 week ... same as before ... it looks like that this type of seeds takes a while to germinate ... will wait for another week to see what happens with the seedlings ...
- also started building my compost this week ... lots of green leaves and grass to make compost ... reading a lot on how to speed up the composting process using activators or other things that i can buy to speed up the process ...
- i already completed this week a simple trellis for the cucumbers to climb ...
- still looking for some cherry tomato seedlings ... i think they call the breed here as Season Red (F1 hybrid) ... just need to scout around all the agri stores in this area ... cheers ...

HAHAHA, it seems you will be very busy this coming days when you start transplanting your various seedling to their permanent plots. Mind you they will be needing lots of water supply, once every morning and the next is at late in the afternoon specially that summer is just around the corner. May I suggest covering them up during the hot hours when the sun is directly on them, ma dadarang sa init agad yan until the time it develops to six or eight leaves. Don't forget to fertilize them too once a week for fast growth.

@ rosy, i have been doing (watering) that already everyday at 8 am and at 4 pm 🙂 ... no problem with the water here in tampakan as we have a deep well and a presure tank to go with it ... thanks for the tip of covering them during the hot hours, i'll definitely do it ... i already bought an organic fertilizer this morning, and yes, the instruction did say to spray them once a week ... can't wait for this weekend to transplant my new seedlings ...

by next week, i'll share some of the things i'm doing with regards to making my own organic fertilizer via compost ... cheers

Hey Boo, why not include some pics of what you are doing in your garden, I know it will or might inspire others too.
What you are doing now reminds me of some few years back when I myself was doing some gardening as well, preparing plots for my pechays, chili and bell peppers, bush sitao at gapang na sitao plus a long line of okras, trellises for ampalayas and cucumbers and upo. Have to be up early in the morning to cultivate the soil and to water them plants, it became so rewarding in a couple of weeks when you will see flowers starting to bloom followed with buds of the fruit starting to come out. Only setback then was, for sure it was so time consuming and tiring but naka katuwa rin specially kay misis kasi laging maraming vegetables( ani ) sa kitchen. :cool01:

my garden work area table where i plant all my seedlings. made of the coconut tree (i just place it on top of a table frame made from used coco lumber) we have to cut to give way to the house we are constructing. it may look unglamorous but its sturdy and it serves my purpose 🙂 ... cheers

my other seedlings awaiting transplant ... the upo should be ready by this weekend ... the diamante tomatos will need another week before i can transplant them ... the green chilli and the sweet bell pepper are just starting to sprout today so it will take another 2-weeks before i can transplant them ... the citronella seeds we bought at gensan, i already place them in pots for them to grow bigger and bushy which will serve as the parents for all the citronella i intend to plant all around the house 🙂 ... cheers

an old plastic drum used to store water in our house construction - no longer needed as we already have the pressure tank installed. my plan is to turn this thing into a rotating compost bin (bio-reactor) by putting a GI tube in the middle and mounting it on 2 coco lumber post for it to rotate ... i hope i can finish this thing by end of this week so that i can start making my own organic fertilizer ... the round metal (cut out from another metal drum we use to store water for mixing cement) will be the cover and the 2 rebars will serve as the lock to prevent the compost from falling out when the drum is being rotated from time to time 🙂 ... cheers

my garden compost tumbler bin (bio-reactor) from scarp or excess construction materials is done. it should be able to produce approximately 1 sack of organic compost fertilizer per batch in 3 weeks time, that is if the process is done correctly 🙂 he he he ... below is the how i made my tumbler bin:
1. use an old plastic drum (standard 220 liter capacity).
2. drill some holes at the bottom of the drum for drainage. #8 drill bit for the holes. the diameter of the group of holes is just smaller than a 1 gallon dole can (juice drink).
3. for the pivot hole (rotating the drum) i use 2 pcs of 1" GI union patente (excess from the pressure tank pipes) at each end of the drum. the hole in the drum should be just large enough for the union to fit in. i use a 2" pvc pipe to hold the 2 union at their position and just tighten the drum with tie wire #16 so that it will not flex when its heavy and being rotated. the drum will rotate on a 3/4" GI pipe which is the only thing i need to buy from the hardware.
4. i use 2 pcs of bend 9mm deformed bars at the top portion of the drum to hold (with a simple nylon rope) the cover of the drum so that the compost will not spill when the drum is rotated.

this afternoon, i already started to fill the plastic drum with my first batch of compost - 2/3 full. i also prepared my home brewed compost accelarator ... 1 packet of dry yeast, 1 cup of brown sugar, a shovel of garden soil, a shovel of saw dust ... mix everything in a bucket of warm water and put it in the sunlight and stir it every few hours ... after 24 hours it should be ready to be poured over the compost 🙂 ... let the compost stand for 4 days in a shaded area before rotating the drum every 2 days (berkely method)

all that is needed now is to make the base from scrap coco lumber in which the drum will be mounted so that it can be rotated during the composting process. i hope to finish this base by end of this week ... cheers
