Hey there bro anski,

I cannot think of a tree that can grow tall and yet roots will not grow too or spread under the ground, the roots are the ones that support the over all weight of the tree just for balance. Now may I suggest that you plant around your property some Royal Palm, they grow so tall and for aesthetic purposes will give your surrounding a tropical look. You can plant them in clumps of of about 4feet apart or in individuals of about 4 meters apart. Their roots are not really that invasive, just imagine a large coconut tree, look at its base, its not like ordinary hard wood trees or any fruit bearing trees where in roots would really destroy underground concrete footings or some piping drainage systems.

OH I just remembered, you can also plant some Bottled Palms ( Champagne Palm ), or Lipstic Palm, I just love this kind of palm, very exotic looking and makes your surroundings very tropical. Or how about some April Showers, when the tree becomes mature, it will be filled with yellow flowers when summer steps in, you will surely be amazed with this tree.

The reason I am suggesting these kind is because I have these kinds planted here in my garden/property, plus of course my son is a practicing landscape architect and we would discuss many things about plants, ornamental plants, tree characteristics etc etc.

Well a coconut tree will be fine too but it should not be planted near a house or on pathways, its okay when they are still in their growing stages and not yet bearing those large clumps of coconuts, one can still clean and trim those dead leaves but when they become tall and mature, what then, who gets to remove those dead and dried up palm strands ?,

You just have to be careful also of those falling palm strands and some old or young coconuts on your pathways or house roof, hahahahaha, you might suddenly get a heart attack when one or two coconuts falls and hit your galvanized roofing, LOL, or maybe accidentally hit on the head by falling small coco fruit smaller than a fist, OUCH OUCH OUCH !!!!!!! 🙁

Now with regards to planting bamboo, you have to select a variety that grows or spread slow, plus you will have to do some periodic trimming of those small branch like protrusions with spikes or thorns with them. It may look good and very tropical at first but I definitely would not suggest planting bamboo, your place will become " matinik, masukal at madumi " , believe me bro because I have a bamboo clump along my private road and it is messy and masukal 😮 when periodic cleaning or sweeping is not done regularly.

That is why I have two units of gas powered vaccumm/blower so its easier and faster for me to sweep those bamboo leaves on the ground, done twice a day. :rolleyes: 😀

you can try the following fruit trees they don't grow big thus they will also have a smaller root system
It would be fun to have some fruit trees at home because even the kids would be excited for them to bear fruits and eat it too.

1) Longkong (lansones)
2) jackfruit
3) atis
4) Citrus trees: calamansi, pummelo, Dayap Etc etc
5) Mulberry

palm trees - i don't really consider them as trees (hehe). they are not able to provide shade against the rays of the sun and hindi pwede sabitan ng kung ano-ano. hehe.

i will consider planting fruit trees. can you just imagine if every filipino planted fruit trees in their own backyard or in vacant lots? sana along highways, the government would plant trees on both sides of the highway. very helpful kapag tag-init na and also helps in lessening air pollution.

i am tending two gumless (not really gumless though but very sweet and meaty) malaysian jackfruit at the frontyard and they dont grow really tall and can provide some shade.

but sometimes its nice to have some kind of lawn with a bottlebrush tree at the center..

can you post a pic of royal palms as i intend to plant some palm trees growing tall near the perimeter fence about 1meter distance from one another..i dont know if this is the way to plant them.

(i am tired of these vertically challenged champagne palm trees btw)

please post some pics of trees (except the famous kakawate hehe) and their names..if possible a close focus of their leaves and branches as well.

Yes bro violaine, I'll take some pics of the Royal Palms I have planted here in my garden but may I strongly suggest if you intend to plant some palm trees, plant the Bottled Palm or the Champagne Palm, this is a very exotic looking palm tree and you will enjoy its unusual trunk as it grows. Very very nice in a garden specially if you have some lawn to spare, it can be planted individually or in groups, close to each other, about 2 or 3 feet apart. :p;)

With the ROYAL PALMS, I planted them about 2.5 to 3.0 meters away from the concrete fence and are about 10 feet apart, and this kind of palm tree really grow very very tall, taller than our local coconut trees, that is why they call it ROYAL PALM, its the favorite palm trees of shieks or royal families in their kingdom in the middle east. 😀

oh no..i saw these Royal Palms elsewhere before and yes i do not have that big space to sink them.

can i have the smaller ones? i am not sure how are they called but their trunks have an average of 1.5 "dangkal" diameter..lol

there are two varieties depending on the leaves..i want the palm with a finer leaves.

i wonder how much a 6 foot tree at commercial planters would cost me.

probably a thousand pisotas?

maganda yun tall and bushy trees. taller than the house to protect the 2nd floor against the scorching rays of the sun. i've seen the african tulip in the neighborhood and they are as tall or even taller than the roofs of the houses. mas-mainit sa 2nd floor kesa sa 1st floor. direct hit ng afternoon sun yun likod ng house. i'm excited to grow our own african tulip 😛 based on my research (thanks to rosy for giving me the name of the tree), mabilis naman ang growth ng tree na ito.
