Hi guys. Im kinda new in this forums but i am in an airconditioning company for a long time.
Here is my views and opinions in a/c since it is already summer
First to tackle is Inverter or basic a/c split type unit.
Its great to have an investment on inverter type units because of many reasons. Here are the pros of having an inverter aircon. Firstly it reduces significantly your electric consumption by 35-50% depending on capacity, Efficiency, and brand. Based on what I read on a local news paper daikin is the most efficient inverter brand. Second is that there are speculation that basic aircon will be phasing out soon since its refrigerant (freon) R22 production will stop the due to environmental issues globally (still confirming if Philippines will also stop its productions) Â*Some brands started to stop their production on basic type a/c like mitsubishi electric (mitsubishi electric and mitsubishi heavy industries are different brands and products so beware).Â*
Cons for inverter is that everything is expensive. The mechanical equipment, parts, materials and sometimes services. Because of technicality of the components, mostly it is electronics. Unlike the basic type a/c, the parts of basic are individualy separated like the capacitor, relay, magnetic contactor etc. In inverter it comes as a whole. Mostly the parts is in the PCB. So you have to change the whole PCB. Some brands do not apply because there are brands that some of the parts are still separated.
FAQ is that how long does inverter will return my investment? It depends on how you use your a/c and how often is your maintainance. But approximately in normal conditions around 8-15 years.Â*
Brands:
It is very important to choose your brands wisely. Not only because of the price but also its availability of spare parts! We do have experiences regarding parts availability. Since we cannot stock a lot of spare parts because some parts are very seldom to be replace. What we have in stock is usually capacitors, magnetic/compreasor contactors, and selector switches since these are very common to be replaced. Most of our parts we order them directly at the distributor or manufacturer if they have one. I recommend carrier, daikin, koppel, mitsubishi electric, condura, as this brands have parts in stock and some are generic. Another thing about brands is that some brands are very similar to another like carrier and condura. They have almost the same parts and components and they are both under Conception carrier. Oddly my technician told me that kolin and everest are almost the same too. There is also an old joke from the service crew that LG is a bad brand since the costumer is "Laging Galit" due to parts that need to replace took so long to arrive. According to them LG parts will take 15-30days or more depending on what part to replace. I also can't recommend new a/c brands like idec and others because part availability is very hard and sometimes you can only get it in their distributor. Unlike daikin and carrier. You can get the parts on dealers and service centers across the Philippines pronto.
I suggest that before buying:
1.)Check for parts availability
2.)consult your a/c contractors for the requred capacity of your a/c for a specific location.
3.)Tell your contractors to follow the required floor/wall/ceiling allowance.
4.) know your a/c (wall mounted, floor standing, ceiling casette, ceiling mounted, etc.)
5.)ask your a/c contractor when to have your scheduled cleaning

Condura are exactly alike with carrier. But cheaper. Kung ano ang parts ng carrier ganun din ang condura mabilis ang services kasi very common ang parts ng carrier and condura 🙂 sobrang tibay din. Tested na namin yun. Kung yung leading brands quality. Ang condura di magpapahuli yan. Same company na nag produce and distribute aa ph ang condura at carrier. Conception - carrier
Another concern i need to discuss. About the capacity. We only know capacity as 1hp 1.5hp etc. But are you aware of how do we know if its 1hp just from looking at it? It happened just now, one of our costumers said that their a/c unit is 2.5hp because they ordered it. But when we checked the aircon we found out that it is only 2.0hp. Let me share to you how to know your a/c capacity
2 ways. First is by calculation of Btu. There is an indication in the box or in the aircon unit about cooling capacity. For you to compute the capacity, you have to divide the Btu by 9,000. If that is not exact you should round off or approximate. Example btu is 11,000, divide it by 9,000 and you will get 1.22... Approximately its 1.0hp. And if you get something like 1. 73 its probably 1.5hp 1.76 it will fall for 2.0hp. And so on
Second is by the model of a/c unit also found on the box and a/c units. For example the model of the ac unit is HSN12IST the 2 or 3 digit number in the model is the average btu. Divide it by 9. In this model (LG), 12 is the number indicated. Divide it by 9 you will get approximately 1.5hp. Another is CS/U-S24SKQ (Panasonic) 24 is the number divide it by 9 you get approximately 2.5 hp. (not all brands have the same model number indication it is not advisable. Like daikin. To be sure base it on btu)Â*
Note: Hp (horsepower) is different from Tr (tonner) 3hp is different from 3tr. Remember that hp is btu divide by 9,000. In Tr its btu divide by 12,000.
(3tr = 4hp =36,000btu)

Yes. Carrier is a us brand. Under the licensing of conception carrier. There are 4 a/c brands. Carrier, condura, midea, toshiba. I only have a few ideas on toshiba and midea so i cant give reviews as of now. If you guys need refrigerators. They also distribute condura ref and kelvinator. For parts. Go to totaline

Know your type of a/c
1. Window type - generally used a/c for home and offices. Cheap and easy to install. Various brands available and very durable. Downsides are prone to rust and corrosion. prone to vibration, quite noisy sometimes, it will also give you a hard time when a maintainance will general clean it since it will leak the stored water all over your floor or even anything below it. My piece of advice, avoid placing important stuffs below it and keep that area clear from debris to avoid inconvenience during maintainance.Â
2)split type wall mounted - general purpose a/c for almost anywhere. Very durable, wide cooling area, very quiet, easy to maintain. Downside is prone to water leak especially when it is already dirty.Â
3.) split type floor standing - office use a/c sometimes residential. Very durable, fast circulation of cool air, does not easily leak and very durable. Â downside, takes up space on your room and sometimes it is where pests resides.Â
4.) split type ceiling suspended - same as wall mounted without the prone on leak because it has a large drain pan. Easy to clean and very wide cooling coverage. Downside is expensive
5.) split type ceiling cassette - office use and sometimes residential particularly in living rooms and dining. It covers almost 360 degrees of cool air and it is almost concealed in the ceiling. Very neat design. Downside is that it is hard to maintain especially when the ceiling where it is attached is very high, very expensive.Â
6.) ceiling concealed - the invisible one. Very expensive but very durable. Hard to maintain since you might not know how to remove the filters. Great for offices and also at home if you have the chaching. Sometimes it can be also be ducted to distribute the air flow. Usually comes with a multi split or vrf system
When to call your a/c contractor to have your scheduled maintainance? Around 3-4 times a year for offices or when it leaks and does not cool because there is a restricted airflow. Always check. For residential probably twice a year.
 It will always vary based on the location of the office/house, the location of your a/c unit and time it is operational. For example, if you are living in an exclusive subdivision, a/c usage is 8hrs a day. Probably every 6 months. For 12 hours a day every 4-5 months.  But if you are beside edsa. Well good luck,  2-3 months will do. Always ask your a/c contractor.Â
Installation of a/c units. This part is tricky since every contractor has different styles and techniques in installing a/c units. Different materials different thickness and gauges and different prices. You can base the materials to my standards so let me share it to you. Im only telling the brands since sizes may vary depending on the capacity of the unit.Â
Wire - phelp dodge (pd) or royal cord
Tubes - Tescop (. 022 and. 028 depends on how thick)Â
Drainage - moldex blue pipe 1/2 will do since it is standard (usually i use 3/4 because i hate water leaks)Â
Safety breaker - koten /schnider* i forgot the spelling sorry*
This are just the basics because i think safety is very important. So always check for the materials to be used.Â
My installation price? Secret hehe. Depends on the capacity. And additional and reduction of material requests 🙂

We will install aircon (1.5hp) in our office. Our office is on the 2nd floor of the building and window type is not possible. We are quoted almost P40k for the installation (mahal daw yung tubing). Is it reasonable or can you suggest an alternative?

Thanks for the information. I chose a new air conditioner a few weeks ago. I needed to calculate the power of the new air conditioner correctly, in the end I installed a mini split system, it copes well with air cooling and has the function of moisturizing and purifying the air, this is very important if you have allergies.
