Re: desk fan wont turn

It happened to our fans, sometimes it start slowly then eventually it won't turn at all when you press the switch but you could hear/feel that it wants to spin but cannot.

Most of the time, it is the bearings/metal bushings that is between the rotating shaft(armature) and the motors body. Open the case and try to feel the freedom of movement of the shaft my manually rotating it by hand.

Just be cautioned to the basic safety steps.

Re: desk fan wont turn

please check this first and tell us what is your observation?

assuming all the connections and switches are ok.

if you switch on the fan, and you cant hear or feel anything on the motor, it "might" be the thermal fuse - blown fuse - it reaches its maximum temp - for safety reason.

Re: desk fan wont turn

pls check this site i researched it for you 😀

http://chuck.kichline.com/fixit/fan/default.htm

you better know what is the reason why it was busted if ever... overheat due to prolong use? or theres problem with bushing, etc ...

if its not worth repairing, and you dont know what and how to do it... just buy a new one.... safety is our maiin concern here.... hth

if all connections are ok and the motor hums when you turn it on, the motor winding may be short-circuited.
if you feel that the rotor shaft is having a hard time to rotate, same as above- short-circuited winding.
if the above scenarios are not evident, chances are the thermal fuse/TCO is busted.

the above scenarios are not user-serviceable. bring the unit back to the dealer/store for servicing or replacement.

if the winding is short-circuited, it needs to be replaced. if the thermal fuse/TCO is busted, the tco will be replaced. the manufacturer will check the winding first if its is still ok. if not, the winding (stator assembly) will be replaced.

do not bring the fan to an unauthorized service shop (street-side), they will probably charge you the stator assembly price if they see that the only problem is the tco. they would probably put a jumper in the connection of the tco, and that is dangerous! also, the winding/stator assembly that they will replace your fans' will certainly be without a tco.

Re: desk fan wont turn

It used to be the bushing needed replacing, nowadays as I have observed it is the rotor shaft.

If you can get to Arayat at the Cubao junction of EDSA and Arayat in a side street on the wet market side of EDSA parallel to EDSA and ask around, there is a guy there outside a small shop supplying fan parts, he fixes the stuck fan by replacing the rotor shaft, and you pay the shop as of last month, 150 pesos only -- and you can choose to give a tip to the repairman.

This repairman has a missing right hand that is why he covers his right wrist with a small towel as he works.
