I have a DIY project at work. I'm planning to replace our electric heaters to LPG fired. My plan is:
1. Use our currnet temperature controllers to control LPG via solenoid valve
2. Maintain a small flame as an igniter everytime the LPG valve opens up.

My problem is, i need a flame detection device or flame detector so that if the flame is accidentally extinguished, the detector automatically shuts off the valve.

Question:

Does the:
1. gas fired clothes dryer by whirlpool
or
2. Elba or La gernmania sotve tops or HUB also work in the same principle.

note:
Aftermarket LPG control device is available in India but is not an option due to cost.

Re: Flame Detectors

Hi,
I'm from Canada and the older gas stoves there use a pilot light as you suggest. There is a small tube sensor that is kept hot from the pilot light, and if the pilot goes out, the tube cools and cuts off the gas to the pilot. To light the pilot, you must hold a match or flame under the tube to heat it up before the gas will flow through the pilot and burn. I'm not a gas tech but thats how I understand the workings. Hope it helps.

Re: Flame Detectors

So we would presume that the tube sensor is the flame detector... I have to chack and see if it's locally available... I'll try to find out if the preset temperature can be tweaked. Oven temperature would be around 350 degrees so i would probable need a 150 degree shut off.

Re: Flame Detectors

Update:

@joe833a: You are right. Most branded stoves woks this way. Now, i'm on a search for the white woven fiberglass (i think) insulation sheet for my project.
