Guys, does this thing work without its remote control?

http://www.koppel.ph/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Split-Type-Wall-Mounted-Brochure.pdf

Funny thing, we are just renting an apartment and the remote control seems to have died for some unknown reasons. Hindi naman nahulog or something and no traces of physical damage/burnt parts (of course replaced the batteries already, still no go - tried a neighbors remote of identical model, our unit worked fine).

This darn thing is now useless and the landlord wants to charge it to me, freakin' unfair, I didn't break the darn remote control. 🙁

based on my experience before, i don't think you can use the unit without the remote. the house we rented in SG before also uses this type of split-type aircon (it's a different brand) with only the remote as the means to control the unit - honestly, it's a lousy design for an appliance unit to only work with a remote. same thing with our samsung UHDTV right now, it only works with a remote, not even a power button on the unit. in the event the remote fails, you can no longer use the TV :-(.

i think you don't have any other choice but to get another remote either from the owner or purchase it from the manufacturer's service center ... cheers

Boo, thanks! You're always there to answer my queries... 😀

Yeah, lousy design indeed without some kind of basic manual controls in case the remote fails.

I was thinking of just buying a universal remote (saw it in OLX and it's much cheaper) but not sure if it's going to work fine (or if it will cause damage to the a/c unit itself).

it should not cause any damage to the a/c unit. what you need to worry is that some of the functions of the a/c unit may not work with the universal remote. if the price difference is not that big, then i would recommend that you get the original remote of the a/c unit ... cheers

Boo!
