Some places in our country are more prone to brown outs and the coming summer will only make it worse.

Dati I used to maintain a generator pero nahiya na ako sa mga neighbors sa ingay at usok. I already gave it up. Slowly I plan to a battery powered and maybe solar charged solution.

One of my projects is this power bank

Video of it in action:

Pwede rin naman bumili ng emergency light with fan sa hardware di ba?

Advantage nito:
1. Much cheaper - ready made emergency light with fan cost upwards of 1 thousand petot
2. Dahil maliit yung light, lasts longer
3. Dahil may USB, you can charge any usb gadget like cellphone
4. Easily replace USB fan pag nasira
5. Enjoyable gawin dahil nga mga DIY kids tayo

Me isang taon na rin siguro nung gawin ko sila kaya finished project na ang naipost ko. Anyway here is a guide for those wanting to do their own:

The battery is the most important part and it will dictate how the other parts and enclosure will become. It turns out I already have a 6volts charger scavenged from an old video camera that is why I chose 6volts. You can also buy 12 volts motorcycle battery if your own needs dictate.

The enclosure can be made from plastic like mine or from plywood. Meron na rin ako ginawa dati na enclosure yung lalagyan ng index card from bookstore. Preferably with handle. I discourage metal dahil added danger of short circuit plus it is more difficult to drill and modify.

The LED light is rated at 12volts but works fine with 6volts. You can use a 6volts flashlight bulb if you wish.

The CDRking cigarette to USB adapter needs no modification. It produces 5volts for any USB gadget whether you supply it with 12volts or 6volts.

The rest is simply assembling everything and adding 2 power switches.

Part of the fun is experimenting to see if what you have come up will work and also recycling junk into something useful.

You will notice dun sa picture na pang-ipit ko sa USB ay lumang tsinelas 🙂 tapos supported by hot glue.
