What is a good refrigerator to buy these days? Preferably 2 doors and would not cost more than 30K.

Thanks

Re: Refrigerator

You missed the sale at Whirpool last fri-sat. Less 30-60% on class B. No box with some scratches though. There are inverter models coming around already, sometimes HMR has good ones if you're not very picky.

Re: Refrigerator

You may consider buying an inverter ref. Im using a 2-door LG inverter type 14 cuft, no-frost. One good thing about it is the higher EER which means more efficient. The compressor also is subject to less wear because of variable frequency controls. The VFD slows down the compressor rotation just enough to maintain the thermostat temperature set.
By preventing the frequent start/stop of the compressor which draws more current, the ref consumes less power
The only cons with my ref now is that its still so cold even at its lowest set, good for the chiller but not in preserving vegetables. I put duct tape on two of the 4 air ports going to the vegetable tray. Its been that way for 2 years now. Im still planning to block some more ports but im afraid that it will adversely affect the operation of the ref.

I also use inverter aircon because its 60% more efficient than the current fixed RPM aircon. You'll notice it with your electric bill.

Re: Refrigerator

I got one already on an impulse buy. Electrolux No Frost 2 doors ( Assembled in Thailand whatever that means ). I think it's 15 cu ft or something. Scratch and Dent sale for 17.5K. The dent is so small you won't even notice it unless you really look for it. No point in buying new when such deals are available .. at least it suited my budget with a few change left to still buy a set of Alpen 25 pcs Metric Drill bits that just arrived at Panda. Made in Austria LOL

I just hope it does not consume more power than the aging no frost Whirlpool it is replacing.

One year warranty.

Re: Refrigerator

Congrats on your new NO-FROST ref JayL, hope it last again and serve the family as well, but my concern with no frost refs is it consumes more electricity that is why I am also in search for a manual de-frosting ref like the CONDURA or the KELVINATOR, plus the factor of brown-outs or black-out specially these typhoon season months.

With a non-frost refs, when brown outs or black outs occurs, yung yelo or lamig sa freezer ay madaling nawawala making frozen foods gets easily spoiled compared to a manual de-frosting ref, and with this frozen food can stay fresh for about two days or so before cooking them all.

The situation with the no-frost ref had been proven several times with our comare's no-frost ref during typhoon seasons when brown outs occur and we have compared it to our small ref, ice in the freezer would stay longer before it gets totally de-frosted. Well that is just my personal concern between the two types of refs. :p 😀 😉

Re: Refrigerator

Thanks bro.

Baliktad naman naging problem ng Condura namin. Kumukuha ng ice yung maid. Nakadikit so sinundot ng kitchen knife ... butas . Mahirap palang repair yun lalu na pag napasukan na ng tubig yung mga coils.

Yes mas matipid nga daw yun frost type kasi walang heater.

Re: Refrigerator

The new ref I got is 175 Watts ...

http://www.energysavers.gov/your_home/appliances/index.cfm/mytopic=10040

based on the above formula

( 175 Watts x 24 Hrs ) /1000 = 4.2 KWH per day

Allowance factor for ref operation ( 4.2 KWH / Day ) /3 = 1.4 KWH / Day

1.4 KWH / Day x 30 days = 42 KWH per month

Estimated KWH cost computation from my latest monthly Merlaco Bill ( Total Amount / Total KWH Consumed ) = 12 pesos / KWH

Estimated monthly power consumption for the new ref 42 KWH / Mo x 12 pesos / KWH = 504 pesos monthly

Tama kaya ito mg bro ? LOL

Re: Refrigerator

May I hijack this thread?

Our 7-year old ref broke down again. Some months back, I had to have the compressor replaced by GE. Now, its dead again. We have this GE twin ref and freezer (separate). Freezer and Ref look exactly the same (mirror image) with stainless door each so it looks cool. But this is probably the worst ref we ever owned. About a year of use, the plastic doors in the freezer compartments started falling off. Even one of the plastic legs at the back has come off and the metal foot on which it is attached is now bent so the ref is tilted at an odd angle.

Here's a photo of the ref & freezer so that some of you can be wary of the shoddy quality of this ref.

I've had it with this ref.

Any recommendations? I'd probably still want a side-by-side with stainless doors (or looks like steel). Problem is that we built our kitchen cabinets around this ref so I'm stuck with a counter-depth ref.

Re: Refrigerator

Will probably go shopping this weekend.

BTW, GE technician said the compressor is dead again. They just replaced it 4 months ago (for a tidy sum). Warranty is 3 months. Aaargh!

Tool cabinet....hmmm.

Re: Refrigerator

Not sure where whirlpool is made nowadays, but from experience they last 20 ormore so years. Had some bad experience with Frigidare though.
