Re: Refrigerator

Any discussion with the repair shop as to possible causes. Is 4 months the norm or a fluke, in their experience. If fluke, could they make an allowance. Could under/overvoltage or power quality problems be a cause. If so, a new refrigerator or compressor may have same fate.

Re: Refrigerator

SWMBO is the one dealing with GE. Last I heard, they'll take the compressor and figure out what happened. Advised her to raise hell.

As far as power quality is concerned, I have a lot of electrical and electronic gear at home, sans AVR, yet they're all alive still. I even have a NAS drive that runs 24x7 and runs great. Even the freezer beside it is still humming along. I think there's something very wrong with the ref itself that makes the compressor fail prematurely.

At our lower ground, in our dirty kitchen is our old old ref (can't recall brand- Westinghouse or KelvinatorI think) which the maids use and abuse. Still alive.

BTW, anyone know where I can get a good deal on a Whirlpool?

Re: Refrigerator

is it true that side by side ref (freezer on left side and ref on right side) is not energy efficient? is the freezer-on-top better in terms of energy savings? i also want to buy a no-frost ref kaya lang nga i have heard na malakas rin ito sa kuryente. we currently have a samsung that is manual frost. i just find it messy sometimes when we defrost. we've had our samsung for more than 6 years already. the only problem we've encountered is the rubber thing for the door. we already had it replaced.

Re: Refrigerator

whirlpool's good, ours is almost 10 years old and as strong as ever. The weak spot's the electronics, which got replaced already. Tech blames the electrical supply (they always do). But since then I've used an avr with it and have had no problems.

Re: Refrigerator

We have a GE 2-door 21 cu.ft. we bought way back 1998. The only problem we encountered was the gasket eaten by rats and line leak because it was never used for approx 3-5 yrs. When i had it diagnosed by Samsung Authorized Service Center they said that the line leak cannot be repaired coz the leak maybe inside the freezer. But there was this small shop i passby along Sumulong Hiway to buy some electric fan parts, i inquired them and said they will isolate the leak. They pulled-out the unit and with some luck the leak was at the back and was easily repaired. I replaced the gasket myself bought it Rosario Pasig City for P279 only and total cost for the repair/rehab was less than P4,000. Works like new. Removed some rust on the body and painted with epoxy primer and enamel, and put some silicon on the edges inside were water and moisture sips in. I guess this will last for a long long time. But I want to get rid of it coz its too big for us now. The kids are grown up and are all away so its just the two of us now. Planning of selling it.
