for those who have a samsung smart tv at home ... i accidentally discovered this last week while trying to search/know more about smart's viewstream mobile application ... it seems that samsung has developed some open-license (e.g. FREE) apps that let's you connect a pc or a mobile to stream/display videos and/or photos to the smart tv using your home WiFi router as the network 🙂 he he he ...
smart view 2.0 for windows (just google it) ... once you installed it on your pc, also read the open source license inside the settings icon (top right of the screen) ... this pc apps let's you connect your laptop/computer to the smart tv using your home's WiFi router, of course, both tv and computer should be connected wirelessly to the WiFi router ... during initial setup, the pc apps will ask for a password which will be displayed on the smart tv and a connection will then be established. you now have the option to watch whatever is seen on the tv from your computer (e.g. additional screen) ... also, no need for USB thumbdrive or portable HDD connected to the tv to watch mpeg movies or view photos. just play the movie in the apps and you can watch it on your tv ... right now, the apps only works for mpeg movies (e.g. torrent download from YIFY), mkv format is not yet possible 🙁 ...
smart view 2 apps @ iphone (also @ google play) ... once you installed it on your mobile, read the open source license section inside the settings icon (top right of the screen) ... the mobile apps lets you use your mobile as a remote for the tv besides watching whatever is shown in the tv from your mobile. same with the pc apps, it also let's you watch videos/photos in your mobile via the smart tv wirelessly ... no need for those expensive iphone special RGB/component cables to connect your iphone to a tv 🙂 ...
both apps are open source license (e.g. FREE), and if your into IT and familiar with apps programming, you can get a copy of the complete source program/s for the 2 software and learn a lot of things just by reading the source programs 🙂 he he he ... this kind of apps are all related to the IoT (internet of things) that you may have read in some news article ... it's the convergence of home appliances, mobile, gadgets, and computers into one big network at home ...
below are 2 URLs i noted in the open source license agreement of the software ... from my understanding of the license agreement, samsung is obligated to share the open source apps source program/s to all (e.g. us the public) interested persons for a period of 3 years after the last shipment of their product (smart tv). so anyone interested, should download it asap. i think even the cryptographic module used for the apps is also open source 🙂 ...

i have an old battery powered ip camera (Ai Ball) which i bought on sale a few years back. i use it with with my iphone before for some POV (point of view) video recording ... the mobile apps is Ai Ball AV Recorder ... maybe i can make a simple apps to stream the video from the camera to the smart tv instead of the mobile through WiFi for use in my home automation project that i'm working on right now ... 🙂 ... cheers
Boo!
