Re: water heater
In my house in Baguio, I have a tank type water heater. But many houses here in Manila have the tankless, used specifically for the shower. I think that the tankless, by heating water only when needed will be more economical. But there is some lag time in getting the hot water.
Re: water heater
I would say that the tankless heater is the better choice. With the tank type, the heating element is continously heating the water inside to maintain it at the set temperature. That's a waste of energy considering you only turn the tap on a few times a day!
I have noticed though that the tankless heaters there seem to lose pressure after a few years of use. Maybe because of calcium or sediment build up in the copper coils inside? If this is the case, then I would suggest installing an inline sediment filter on the supply pipe to the heater.
As to the size of tank type heater, it really depends on how you are going to use it. Just for shower? or all your faucets?
Re: water heater
I would like to add a question of my own? How do I clean any sediments or build up on my tank type heater? After 7 years, but with only intermittent use when I am in Baguio, I fear that the heating coil is encrusted, considering that the subdivision where my house is uses a deep well.
Re: water heater
Here's a good site that describes in detail re water heater tank maintenance.
