Re: what brand of aircon would you recommend?

Depends on the size of the room.

Just about all the air-con units are built with the same or similar quality. The added on features and of course the economy rating is important.

If window type, be sure there is a timer built-in. Some even have a way to connect an electric fan that kicks in when the air-con shuts down.
Check your warranties and locate the service centres.

I don't think the split types have this timer, not sure though.

If you are on a budget, the .5 or .6 hp air con units will be sufficient, but the real cheap ones don't have a timer. The locally made units like Condura have the most number of service/warranty centres, but are slightly more expensive then the LG or Samsung equivalents.

Makro units are the cheapest, but some real unknown brands.
🙂

Re: what brand of aircon would you recommend?

Para makatipid sa koryente, I suggest that you consider the highest EER rating for similar power ratings. Say, if you have decided to get 1hp (the rule of thumb is 1hp for every 20sqm room space), compare and get the highest.

For cooling comfort, I suggest you compare and consider getting the highest BTU rating because some 1hp a/c have 11,000BTU, while some have lower or higher than that. Get the highest for the same power rating.

But of course the higher the BTU, the colder, the higher its energy consumption or the lower its EER, as the basic principle of equilibrium applies; that is, energy in = energy out. More electrical energy going in necessarily gives you more cooling energy.

Both our aircons are Condura and they've served us well for about 10 years now. My recommendation is to get the largest unit, within reason, that your budget can afford. By doing so you make it easier for the a/c to cool the space, reduce the wear on the unit, and in turn prolong its lifetime. I'm not sure but I think efficiency also improves with size.

I have a GE 3/4 with electronic thermostat with temperature readout. It's doing fine and saving me money. I've turned the thermostat to the highest comfortable temperature which for me and my wife is 25 degrees celsius.

Recently installed a 1.75HP Panasonic Inverter Aircon (Split-Type). Comes with air purifier/ionizer. Very quiet operation and low energy consumption as well.
