Re: what brand of aircon would you recommend?

I have a 3/4 Hp National. Very quiet and very high EER. 7 years old. No problem.

I recommend condura or carrier. you can't go wrong it's just a matter of finding the right power for your room.

BTW yung internals ng condura and carrier ay the same, mas mura ang condura because carrier is for export.

Re: what brand of aircon would you recommend?

I always prefer locally manufactured units, like panasonic and condura....the reason?

please let me share to you first my experiences with aircons for your consideration:

Know the Mortal Enemies of Aircon
1. Wrong place of installation
2. power surge/fluctuation
3. rust / corrosion from exposed parts from the elements (rain, birds' droppings, dirt, etc.)
4. not qualified tehnician

Remedies
1. Install aircon away from direct sunlight. If you did already, consider putting a canopy.
2. Install Surge protectors, Delay timers. There are now brands with these features installed.
3. Almost all aircons produced after 2005 have their moving metal parts changed to plastic. Bottom of casings were also changed using plastic.
Clean a/c unit using power spray, at least, 4x a year. I f you can avoid using detergent, do so.
4. Always consult qualified technician. Some all-know all technicians do shortcuts, please avoid them. This is the reason why it is important to have an a/c unit manufactured locally, for parts and service availability.

I second the question. Does anyone have experience with "idec"?

Supposedly, they are made in Korea. The distributor is Manila Sources Corporation in Binondo. At their showrooms in MC Home Depot and Ortigas Home Depot, they also show "Mercury" solar water heater and "Viper" automatic gate opener, all made in Korea, I was told. However, their salespersons claim that they do not know the name of the Korean manufacturer(s) of these aircons, solar water heaters, and automatic gate openers. It seems like it is a closely held secret.

Their brochures and website also do not say anything about who the manufacturer is, or who they (Manila Sources) are. Their company name and Binondo address is not even shown on their brochures and website. On brochures, they show only their showroom locations and phone numbers. Their showroom people are not very knowledgeable about their products; they can say prices but not much else. They would just give out a Binondo phone number for other questions.

There are some hits on Google on "idec aircon", mainly people selling their aircons, and a very negative review.

Their aircon, solar water heater, and gate opener prices are compelling though, e.g., from their air brochure, for wall mounted aircon...
1 hp P16,500
1.5 hp P18,500
2 hp P25,000
2.5 hp P30,000
4 hp P43,000
with "free installation" (Metro Manila only, I think).

I was told by their salesperson that the warranty is only one year, but you can extend it to five years on the compressor for P2,500 (1 hp) and P3,500 (2 hp). Assuming you buy idec, is it worth extending the warranty? How likely is compressor failure anyway, and what is the typical cost of compressor repair/replacement?

Yeah, stay away from IDEC, not worth the savings.

Dumb mistakes will always be dumb mistakes, unless . . . . you learn from it, and then it will be learning experience.

My condura is already 9.5 years old and still going strong! Wala na nga lang timer (another check box in my to-do list).

If energy savings is what you're after, go for Panasonic with inverter technology. We have a 18 (or 20?) cubic-foot Panasonic ref with inverter and it consumes the same amount of electricity as the 7 cu-ft Condura that it replaced.

Re: what brand of aircon would you recommend?

+1 on Condura and Carrier aircons.. price not too expensive, abundance of service providers....we had it for a decade still going strong.

Have 1 LG okay naman, only complain is the drain its at the back instead of bottom (like Condura and Carrier), little water remains under making the case rusty in the long run.

Re: what brand of aircon would you recommend?

Inverter technology is currently the perfect choice for power consumption and efficient cooling. Panasonic, LG and other lead brands have switched to this platform bcoz of it's proven technology. Pretty soon a lot more tech will change and it will be for the benefit of the consumer market. Just remember that climate change has dawned on us and temperatures have risen quite high in the past years. We now use 10-12 sqm/per horsepower computation instead of the original 15-20 sqm/hp. Consider this temp change in your buying guide. Hope this helps.
