Been using my Panasonic multipoint water heater but not very happy.

My problem is that it swings from hot to cold within one short shower session. It seems that the thermostat opens when water gets too hot, allowing it to cool a bit (and thereby regulate temp) but it does not close the circuit quick enough.

Tried setting it in Low, Medium, and High but same result.

Any suggestions?

The thermal switch has a longer time gap than JayL's. Also the Flow switch may have some calcified sediments. If this problems were present since the unit was installed try to check if there are stones or sediments in the line going to the H2O inlet. If there aren't any line blockages you may want to contact your vendor and have the unit serviced/checked for a possible replacement. The reset and thermal overload switch may have to be checked. Sometimes when MWSS services water lines in your area their repairs cause particles and other impurities to lodge in the unit. Install a small pre-stage filter (5 microns up) for sediments. This will prolong the heater's life.

It could be the water pressure. It's not blastingly strong but not weak either. Will contact the installer and get some ideas. Thought I'd post it here first as I was hoping someone had encountered the problem and solved it.

Yes. My old water heater (Champs) which broke down already would stay only in one temperature. I would turn the shower dial to the desired mix of hot & cold and throughout, the water is at the temperature I set.

Do you have a gravity tank or do you use a line or feed booster aside from a pressure tank to the inlet after the softener? If the flow switch takes time to trigger the heating element then maybe that is where the problem area is. The thermal switch cuts off only when the heat range has been reached then it flexes back to its off position when the temp sensor cools down. Maybe the service guys can replace the whole thing if it's still under warranty instead of just replacing a part or two.:fone:

Just to clarify. My water heater now is Panasonic. Replaced the Champ when it broke down some months back.

I actually have a pressure tank and a gravity tank on my roofdeck. My main water supply goes to this rather complex system then, from there, water flows by gravity to all taps/showers. Water pressure is not burstingly strong but good enough for a mild shower.

On water pressure affecting water heater performance: Not sure I understand why pressure would be a factor. The way I imagine a water heater operates is that it has a tiny tank inside where water is heated by the heating element. When the water gets too hot, heating element switches off. WHen water cools back down, it switches on. That tiny tank feeds into a hot water line. This hot water line goes into a mixing valve where a cold water line joins it. The mixing valve allows calibrated blending of hot and cold water to get the desired shower water temperature.

So, way I see it, pressure should not affect performance.

One may argue that, since pressure affects flow, low pressure makes water flow too slowly inside that tiny tank. But how water flow is actually constrained by the mixing valve so, regardless of pressure, flow through the tiny can be very flow if tepid water is desired.

My hypothesis is that the thermostat is not reacting fast enough or its bimetal(?) "dipstick" is not cooling fast enough.

Unless Iam missing something here.

Will probably call in the Panasonic guy.

Problem with many repairmen from my experience, though, is that they mostly "robotically" prescribe solutions based on a formula of conditions without understanding the problem, solution, causality, etc.

Looks like a good move Ding. If you can get replacement for the heater then it takes one variable out of the equation.

Now here's an acid test for Panasonic heaters. The results here for sure will affect my future dealings with their heater products. 🙂

This is a service issue and although I have not had any problem with the heater I purchased I surely would like to know how they will respond if there is a problem.

I recently got the same heater Ding, 6Kw to replace our Champs Hot Spa as well which was 6.5Kw. In my observation, the Panasonic is left wanting, 8Kw might have been a better choice for me. I left mine at the highest setting Ding and it hardly dips temp... any setting other than that and I get a similar result depending on the tap water temp (if the tap is cold, then it dips more)...

I noticed this common problem w/ the Panasonic units in my past contracts. Also the multi- point units I encountered had a shorter life compared to their contemporaries. This is why I went for the AEG. I specifically searched for a unit that can work on lower pressure, w/ a bigger mixing tank and a controllable heating system that is sensitive enough to cut-off when it gets too hot or the flow volume is too low. When I inspected the inner parts of both brands i found the AEG fitted more my criteria. By the way, my unit is an AEG BS 35---60E rated at 6KW @220V 60hz. It only needs a flow volume of 1.5 - 2.0 l/m and it's an instantaneous model. Right now it stays w/in the halfway to about 4KW setting and water stays hot all through out it's usage even on a summers day when water pressure is low. I hardly go beyond these settings and my electric bill ain't bad either.

In my case, Sonny, i don't bathe with really hot water. I just need the water to get warmer than the usual frigid Antipolo deepwell water in the early morning so setting my Panasonic to Medium is enough. I just hate the way it fluctuates from hot to cold twice in one 5-10 minute shower.

AEG gave me 3 years Warranty against product defect and service life. I just don't know w/ Panasonic but normally mahaba naman kapag H2O heaters. Ilaban mo ng new replacement 'coz recent purchase lang naman and it's not even 6 months that problems already started to set in. Besides, may basis naman like JayL's unit doesn't have any problems like yours from the start d ba?

This is one of the cheaper (if not cheapest) ones, 'Mercury' brand, supposedly made in Korea. Various sizes, starts at P18.5K for 100 L. Hard to decipher the manual, but seems to be working OK ... two years so far.

You'll have to do breakeven or ROI calculations and maybe bring in 'intangibles'.

how's your solar water heater holding up? no problems encountered so far? where did you buy this and is there any warranty?
