how's your solar water heater holding up? no problems encountered so far? where did you buy this and is there any warranty?
Seems to be working so far. Can get quite hot, e.g., panel now (sunny) says 83 deg C, 100% full. This 'Mercury' brand is marketed in satellite booths at some of the Home Depots. Sold by the same outfit ('Manila Sources Corporation') that sells Idec air conditioners, and a few other supposedly Korean things. The reps claim not to know, not to have been told about who the manufacturer is. Seems like a strange/shady/secretive outfit to me and Idec brand doesn't seem to have a good reputation, but couldn't argue with the heater price. Warranty 5 yr on tubes, 1 yr on other parts and service.
Only problem so far is significantly lower static water pressure on the hot line vs. cold. Has got everyone baflled since static pressure should be a function only of head and there isn't any difference in head even if the heater is on the roof. We think that this pressure differential is what has caused the shower controls to be very sensitive, cold in one position and almost scalding if nudged just slightly...

Im happy with the alpha brand of water heaters. Very durable and has good after sales service. Also try to get the manual type(rotary knob) instead of the digital version. One major disadvantage of the digital version is it always reset back to default temp of 36C every time you turn of water supply.

I had reported previously that I hate the way the temperature fluctuates while taking a shower. Well, last week, my shower head broke so went to Wilcon to get a new one. Decided to splurge and got one of these:
I got a more conservative light gray color.
Man, showers have become much more enjoyable. Temperature does not fluctuate anymore. And this shower head's sprinkle is soft and wide. My old one used to attack with a jets of water; this new one caresses with light drops.
The splurge was worth it.
It turns out, there was nothing wrong with my Panasonic heater after all. The old shower probably restricts flow causing the water heater to switch on and off.

Almost all the H2O heaters in the market are built in the same working principle. The only difference is how their components are made by their respective makers. Panasonic, AEG and other leading brands may claim to have the best components but if you check their not so well known contemporaries you will be surprised that these companies have also used the same parts from the same part supplier as the popular ones or made their own version of parts that seem more reliable comparatively. If you back read some of the topics discussed here on the brand of your interest you may arrive at a better conclusion for your intended purchase. Good luck.

Been using Bhagwan multi point heater. Panasonic needs strong pressure and keeps shutting down. Bhagwan uses flow switch not pressure switch. Already replace all our panasonic with Bhagwan.

Most modern heaters are built with flow switches for low pressure operating conditions. It's the range that varies from brand to brand. As I have stated, my AEG has a flow rate of 1.5 to 2.0 l/m and is instantaneous type. I also studied the mixing tank material as well as it's size. Apparently their material isn't the type that most soluble iron or sediments adhere to. My unit was purchased last November 2009 and my older heater, FACO, an Italian brand was bought since 1996. The older heater is the pressure switch type but since I installed a pre-stage filter (5 micron dual media filtration) on my main inlet it still works fine with no losses due to clogging whatsoever. Almost all of us here are happy with our heaters. It's just a matter of what appeals to you in terms of what we have shared comparatively but all in all they are built almost in the same platform.

Hello I just registered here. I want to ask regarding the heating element. I noticed in panasonic the housing for the heating element is made of plastic and in Champs or AEG the housing for the heating element is made of copper. what could be the difference of having plastic and copper housing for heating element? Thanks
