Ok, since the heat is really kind of "unforgiving" these days, we just bought a 1 HP Condura window type for a room size of about 16sqm. (or less - as it is not a perfect 4x4).
This is really our 1st time to own an A/C unit in our own room so it might just be "some kind of getting used to" but to be honest, I find it a little bit loud and noisy... 😮
Is there a cheap and simple way that I can have some kind of sound dampening on this beast? I was thinking wrapping some foam material around the cavity/mouth area.
Appreciate any advice and tips! 😉

Push it back into the wall opening as far as possible. That way the noise will radiate outside of the room
Well, actually sumabit na stopper/bracket nya... the wall is quite thick (about 10" or so ata) also so parang naka patong nalang sya, no bracket at the back anymore...
Since we are only renting, slightly limited ang modification that I can do on the wall itself so I'm thinking of putting some noise dampening material nalang around it.
Will that work kaya?
, you can try using a spray insulation foam around the aircon unit to dampen the sound coming from the outside ... spray the foam from the outside of the house ... from the inside, temporarily put some hard material around the unit before you spray the foam so that it will not go through inside the house ... use duct tape to secure the carton between the wall and the casing of the aircon unit ... once the foam is hard, remove the carton and then scrape the excess hard foam using a utility knife and sandpaper to make it smooth ... hope this helps ... cheers

this "spray insulation foam" can be found in common hardware stores right? so far i only knew silicone sealant...
Can you describe the noise? Is it from the compressor? Or from some loose metal and plastic parts? Or maybe the AC housing is not snugly fitted to the wall.
Our AC makes noise coming from loose parts. I just make sure I tighten, fasten them properly (usualy by tape only).
Also make sure that the AC unit has a snug fit with the wall.

It's from the compressor, maybe I just didn't expect it's this loud as I was somehow expecting "refrigerator" level of compressor noise... I'll try to plug in some foam material plus duct tape on the small gaps of the cut-out, and I hope that would help dampen the noise...
yes, i saw it here at Ace Hardware in SM general santos ... i just realized one drawback just now. if you use this insulation foam, removing the unit from the wall for repairs or what will be a bit difficult as the foam has hardened and sort of glued to the casing of the aircon ... you may need to use a utility knife to cut away the foam to remove the unit from the wall ... cheers

I'm surprised the noise from the compressor bothers you. I expect brand new units to be relatively silent. Perhaps you can record the noise and upload it then I can compare it with what I hear from our unit. Our is not really quiet but we can sleep soundly at night despite it.

probably I am just a little subjective as our area also is a relatively very quite place... when we tested it at Abenson, I really thought it was dead silent since I am not hearing much noise from the compressor... apparently, it could just be that the ambient noise around the store/mall is already significant enough to dampen the a/c noise....
Nevertheless we could still sleep soundly at night though... as compared to randomly waking up in the middle of the night because of the "summer heat"... 😀
So I guess this is really just a matter of getting used to from my part... 😉
