When it rains for a few days this shows up on the 2nd floor of the house:

A couple of meters from this spot is the firewall, which is coated with plexbond a couple of years back. Same thing happens to other spots in the same floor but not as severe.

This is near the stair well:

In the picture above, the firewall is at 10/11 o'clock. So the stairwell is between the firewall and that spot on the floor.

This diagram illustrates the construction of the firewall:

Do you guys have any idea where the moisture is coming from? I suspect the firewall is not completely waterproof and water seeps in. Water gets trapped between the slab and the topping. If this is indeed the case, will it also explain the moisture near the stairwell? If there is a substantial amount of water under the topping, why isn't it leaking into the stairwell?

Re: 2nd floor water seepage?

Better check all other entry points aside from the firewall (which may not be fully sealed).

Re: 2nd floor water seepage?

hard to tell yan sa mga water.. it may be cause sa faulty water line or sewer line.. its more on guessing game..

list to be check.

- faulty water line.
- faulty sewer line.
- areas that are needed to be water proofing. like sa mga tiled area like CR, Balcony, Laundry etc. ang prob if you have tile you have to take off the time just to check if properly water proof. or you may check it be not using it for several day or week just to see if it coming there.
- Exterior wall - if you see moisture during raining.
- roofing or roof top - if you see moisture during raining.
- Storm Drain - if you see moisture during raining.

hope this helps..

Re: 2nd floor water seepage?

I have this problem myself, sa on the fourth floor. Water could be from firewall, from cracked interior downspout, or from exposed balcony.

The balcony was the prime suspect, so i had the topping removed. Beneath i found that the external chb wall was not waterproofed, and was in contact with the slab floor which wasn't waterproof either. My solution was to undermine part of the exterior wall, and treat it and the slab with thoroseal, then flintkote. Then i put topping on the slab. I left a 4'' trench between the base of the wall and the slab. I then dipped waterproofing fabric in flintkote, then manually pressed it into the undermined area of the wall to ensure complete coverage ng waterproofing, then immediately filled the trench with sand. The sand presses the wet fabric on to the walls, para dumikit.

I'll flood-test this after the flintkote cures. If it works, I have the option of removing the sand, then filling it with concrete. I plan however, to leave the sand in place, and cover it with removable panels of hardiflex (parang manhole cover). That way i still have options in case water seepage recurrs.

Sakit ng ulo talaga. Nakakainis lang because had the construction been done correctly at the start, this would all be unecessary. Yun nga lang, waterproofing is unseen and expensive, so they cut corners.
