Re: My DIY Concrete Mouldings Creation

5 kilo of cement and binistay na buhangin is enough, but if you are going to try it during the session, we need more than 5 kilo each.

5 to 10 inches lenght of moulding as sample i think is ok for you to see how to make mouldings.

or i can make a step by step tutorial with pictures and i will post it here.

Ano yung binistay na buhangin? Sorry for the ignorance lol. Thanks for any response.

Der Ossie,
I found your tutorial some time ago and have read through it multiple times - thank you for your work and for sharing the process with us all - it is the only tutorial I have been able to find on the internet! And what amazing mouldings you have been able to make - I am very very impressed!

I wanted to try myself to make some mouldings, but I have some problems, so I joined this forum in the hope that you would be willing to answer some questions.

1: I am just using one template (the finishing template) for My mouldings. When I try to pass over the cement with the template it either drags apart or if I make it more wet and soft it collapses and I cannot build a tall moulding. What is your sand / cement ratio for the mix?

2: Do you need to let the bottom layer dry before you do the top layers with pure cement?

I hope you have time for answering - thank you again for your tutorial!

Best wishes,

hi Kab, thanks for the kind words.

Please see below answer to your question.

1. First, make sure that there still a space for the pure cement otherwise it will drag some of the cement when doing finishing touches. Your pure cement when finishing should be at around 2-3 mm thick, the thinner the better as it will crack in the long run due to hot weather.

The cement should be firm. If its soft, just add pure powder cement to make the cement firm. My sand cement ratio is somewhat 1 (cement) : 2 (sand).

2. Don't let the bottom dry before doing the finishing touches - the thin finishing layer will crack as experienced.

Also, its better to cut the finished moulding the next day, easy to cut and not that dusty. Wet your finished mouldings everyday with water, then the day after the installation.

Good luck, hoping to post your finished mouldings on this forum.

HTH.

hi Kab,
You are right, its because of the cement lump or the cement is old and exposed to air for a long time. You need to filter it so you will get a fine cement which is good for finishing touches. When you buy a new bag of cement, do not expose it to air, put it to air tight storage.

You are almost there, just put a cement powder then spray with water. Your cement should be similar to this. It's somewhere in the middle of Condensed Milk and Evaporated Milk type of mixture.

Then cement powder, water - until you get the nice finish.

Keep on posting please. 🙂
