Hello, i just want to ask for information regarding getting another meralco account or meter. you see, the house we're living in is owned by my father in-law who has a history of having illegal connection but that was a long time ago(90's) and he is not living in this house anymore but the line we are using is under his name im not sure if its the only one he had. iniwan na kasi nya itong bahay sa mga anak nya so andito kami habang di pako nakabili ng sarili namin 🙂

The problem now is we are two families living in this house as of now and i want to save money by saving electricity but its hard to implement rules when you cannot discipline others in the household.

I haven't actually tried to go to a meralco office because i fear the case with my father in-law will be unearthed and then it will be my fault  i heard that they are asking for 500,000 for the illegal connection case.

so now tyaga tyaga muna ako makisama since di ko naman bahay ito gusto ko lang mapabuti din sana para mas mababa singil ng kuryente kung divided sa two meters na ang consumo is that right? may suggestion po ba kayo? if ever pwede mag install ng sub meter advisable po ba iyon at anong magandang brand ang gamitin? Thanks po sa mga makapag reply.

Re: Applying another meralco meter

Hi there friend,

I sympathize with your current situation or predicament, I do understand the difficult position your family is in and hope someday you'll find a solution, tell you the truth you have a very stressful situation there. I personally would not advise installing a sub meter, it might cause a rift within the household. Maybe for the mean time tiis muna and make the total amount of meralco bill be divided equally in two para patas ang bayaran at walang gulo but if you really want to save on electric consumption, find yourself and your family if you are married with kids, a place of your own, maybe do rent an apartment and from there you're now in control of the household and the meralco bill will be in your name pa. :p 😉

Sorry if I'm sounding like " dear Kuya Eddie " here but mahirap talaga ang iniwang problema ng father-in-law mo. If you really decide on installing a sub meter, you can check out WILCON Depots, ACE Hardwares or other home depots somewhere in Ortigas Ave. or in Julio Vargas ave,

Check out first those places and I'm sure you'll find one that will suit you best.

Re: Applying another meralco meter

Sir Blackswan,
I believe there is no law against installing a submeter kasi the electric company only considers the connection from the main distribution line to the house meter their responsibility and what goes on after the meter is typically the responsibility of a licensed electrician.

The electric company doesn't care about a submeter as they see your comsumption based on the reading in the main meter. This now becomes a matter between you and the one you share the bill with.

By installing a submeter you do realize that you also need to do some wiring so that the load (from those that you use) will be recorded by your submeter. This is relatively easy what is difficult is convincing the other party that you will only be paying the amount based on your submeter 🙂

So if a good discussion and agreement between you and the other party in your house could not be achieved, both of you still suffer if the bill will not be paid fully or you will financially suffer if you end up paying for all of it. Very tough situation indeed.

I hope you'll find a win-win solution sir.

Re: Applying another meralco meter

Sir,

please clarify.

if you want a second meter - please checkout this link. http://www.meralco.com.ph/consumercare/apply.html

there are conditions on that link on when they would allow installation of a meter like it should be physically detached from the adjacent property, etc....

if you want a sub meter, how would you compute the bill? there is an escalating computation like 1st xx watts you pay a smaller amount and it becomes more expensive as you go up. you you just cant subtract the wattage used by one meter and make a direct computation kasi it should be even. best way to make a computation is to get the total wattage consumed and divide and get the percentage an multiply by the actual amount.

i hope this helps.

Re: Applying another meralco meter

Having a sub-meter is far less complicated than applying for a Meralco supplied one. Madali lang naman mag-compute nyan.

Amount/kWh consumed = rate per KWh.

wala kasi electric bill ko dito but parang 10+ na ata ang per kWh ngayon.

so kung 20kWh (x 10) = 200 pesos, for example.

Re: Applying another meralco meter

If you can explain your situtation objectively, baka naman pumayag magka sub meter. Or, i think you can apply for a seperate meter provided you follow their requirements. I myself is in the process of dooing so. And i just moved back with my mopm.

Re: Applying another meralco meter

I agree with the guys. Putting a sub-meter is really easy, the difficult part will be "installing" it in your relationships been-there-done-that several times and in retrospect I advise you tread lightly.

Great link Bro Earl8.

Re: Applying another meralco meter

Hello everyone,

Question: Can I still apply for a Meralco line even our house has an illegal connection case before. Medyo matagal na yung case na yan more than 10 years na. So ngayon submeter lang gamit nmen and we want to have our own line na. Bata pa ako nung naputulan kame due to illegal connection daw kc what happened yung collector ay dapat puputulan na kame pero what he did binaligtad nya yung metro kaya nagkailaw pa din kame (due to awa I guess) but when the inspector checked the house and found the baligtad na metro ay natag na kame as illegal connection. I don't know but we want to have our own line talaga. Can someone knows or experienced atleast the same situation? Your feedback will greatly appreciated.

Re: Applying another meralco meter

What is there to lose if you try for a new application? If it was me I'd go ahead and do it.

By the way I just got a new 100A Meralco Service Entrance for my garage shop.

The Meralco inspector will require that the place where the meter would be applied for has a CR and a kitchen sink. After that he will issue a yellow card which needs to be taken to your City Hall for an installation permit.

Re: Applying another meralco meter

a bit OT mga kaibigan:

sir JayL, ano po model ng 100A meter ninyo? 30 amperes (rectangular type) lang kasi ngayon yung meter sa bahay namin. dahil may balak akong maglagay ng mini metal workshop e sa tingin ko iupgrade ko na rin yung meter.

tsaka residential pa rin ba yung classification na inapply sa inyo sir jay?

salamat

Sir, what is the reason that you need a CR and a sink before being approve?

Here are some realities about your situation…
1. Nakikitira kayo ng asawa mo so that would mean you are expected to share regardless kung equal or otherwise in terms of expenses.
2. Money saved on rent expense is the trade off in your situation.
3. Mas mahirap ba ung bigat ng usapin ng gastos sa electric bill kaysa usapin tungkol sa paghihiwalay ng kuntador w/c may affect your relationship with your in laws?
4. On the other hand mas madaling i-manage ang isang pamilya kaysa 2 but unfortunately you can not afford to move out yet and neither can you jeopardize your relations with your in laws. If you can explain politely about your financial woes they may understand the necessity of your point of having 2 meters. Good luck.

i already have my yellow card, what are the things to do in cityhall? what documents should I need to submit in cityhall? I'm just a little scared doing things with cityhall because of some stories I've heard about lagay and fixers, specially if their going to ask for my land title.
Please advise
