GoodPM mga sir!

Recently, my brother's BAthroom door got busted. There was one time the doorknob got jammed and someone was trapped inside the bathroom, so they had to kick the door to break in. Unfortunately, the doorknob and pieces of the door were shattered, leaving the door unusable. We plan to replace door, however i need some advice 🙂

I plan to replace this wooden door with a PVC one, however, The Wooden flush (hollow) door is about 2.00M high only. Im aware that the standard door height is 2.10m (7'). So I plan to purchase a custom sized PVC Door, if possible. THe issue here is, there is already an existing Wooden Jamb, and i need to know how are we gonna accurately get the measurements of a replacement PVC door since it is non-adjustable (no cuts, no sawing) once purchased. Are we just gonna use the dimensions of the door jamb or there is an allowance, or a standard rule in measuring Doors? Also, it seems like PVC doors come with a PVC jamb as a set already, but the PVC Jamb is rather useless because of the existing Wooden one.

On the other hand, im not very open in assembling a wooden flush door from scratch, since the process of assembly, surface preparation and painting takes way too much time and expertise.

Any help will be appreciated. thanks! 🙂

Re: Bathroom Door Replacement - need advice

brader mig, try this : measure the distance of the jambs, if its 65cm to 68cm use 60cm pvc door, if its 75cm to 78cm use 70cm door. basta hindi lalayo ng 5cm to 8cm ng commercial sizes of pvc door, (width: 60, 70 , 80, 90 cm).. for the height, you can cut the door to the desired height. first, carefully remove the plastic trim/lining at the bottom or top of the door then cut the door using jigsaw or hacksaw or any fine toothed saw, then reinstall the trim/lining using adhesive(mighty bond or bull dog brand)... i've done this before.

Re: Bathroom Door Replacement - need advice

Hi there bro mig21,

There is another way if you are amenable to it, you say you plan to purchase a PVC door for the bathroom, ok, you have to measure first the with opening of your wooden jamb and find out if any of the commercial PVC doors, its width will fit in, then if not then I guess you will have to replace also the entire wooden door and the wooden jamb so that the new PVC door with jamb would fit the opening. Now with regards to the height, you can trim the underside of your pvc jamb and door like what bro fortnapz have just mentioned.

I know you will say its gonna be matrabaho, madumi or mabusisi, well I guess that's how its gonna be, a little sacrifice if you want a nice and well fit bathroom door. Why am I saying this ? coz I have done it, even replaced 2 wooden bathroom doors and jambs and it turned out quite well.

Bro what ever you choose, good luck on the task ahead and think positive. :bouncealt: 😀

ill measure the "opening" of the jamb to confirm with you guys, as far as i can remember last time i visited there it was like 62cm.

Re: Bathroom Door Replacement - need advice

@mig21,

Removing the door jamb will be kinda messy and a bit hard, prepare some chisel and a hammer, also a pry bar ( bareta de cabra), and a hack saw. You will have to chisel some concrete filling and some edges of the CHBs where the wooden jamb is attached so to expose the nails embedded on the wood and concrete, if all nails have been exposed then you cut them with your hack saw.

OH don't forget to prepare walis tambo and a dust pan, there will be lots of concrete dust and CHB chunks that you will have to sweep from time to time. :p 😀

IF EVER THIS IS WHAT YOU WILL DO !!! :beam:

Re: Bathroom Door Replacement - need advice

@rosy thanks bro, probably a concern i might have is when chipping the concrete off the door jamb, i might need to plaster and repaint it! (extra labor). ill try first to install a PVC door, if its look untidy enough, then i might have to remove the wood jamb. thanks much for the help sir!

Measure the old door, assuming it fitted then the new one will as well.

Re: Bathroom Door Replacement - need advice

while we're on the subject of pvc doors, i've been told you had to cut off the flange on the hinge side, else it won't fit properly. seemed like a misconception to me, but is it?
