It's supposedly the first "air cleaning paint" in the world.

I'd like to try it out, but I want to see reviews/feedbacks first before buying it. Unfortunately, I can't find any reviews of this innovation in the net...aside from the press releases of Boysen:rolleyes:.

Not necessarily Boysen-specific but try web search for photocatalytic paint. I don't know about the claim of being first in the world.

One concern is that titanium dioxide is classified as a possible carcinogen, according to Wikipedia.

Is this Boysen product already available? How much and where?

Re: Boysen Knoxout...what do you think?

Seen at Wilcon, P1,190 for a 4 liter can.

Another issue not addressed or even mentioned in the Boysen literature or website is how long the calcium carbonate will last and what will happen when it is exhausted.

In this article on photocatalytic paints, it says:

In a typical 0.3-millimetre layer, there will be enough calcium carbonate to last five years in a heavily polluted city, says Robert McIntyre of the British company Millennium Chemicals, based in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, which developed the paint. When the carbonate has been exhausted, the titanium dioxide will continue to break down NOx, but the acid this produces will discolour the paint.

Hmmm, not willing to try this out just yet until enough reviews/studies are done. For now it seems too good to be true.

Here's their website by the way.

FlexSeal PRO Self Cleaning Paint claims to be self-cleaning.

So you have to pick which one you want -- a paint that cleans the air (and itself but only for about 5 years, after which it discolors), or a paint that cleans itself (but not the air).

Hi! it seems there are a lot of inquiries regarding kNOxOUT. With regards to the titanium dioxide, all paints have titanium dioxide. This gives paints the white color or opacity to the paint. Apparently it is also used in toothpastes and cosmetics.

No concrete studies about its carcinogenic properties are conclusive. Prolonged contact with skin like in cosmetics and toothpastes and other skin products may cause some disadvantage but with paints there are no apparent research.

Paints have binders so that the titanium dioxide in it will not scatter around the room. When paint comes in contact with the skin we immediately remove them so no prolonged contact is establised.

I hope this has given you more insight regarding paint chemistry particulary with titanium dioxide.

Re: Boysen Knoxout...what do you think?

Calcium carbonate is an extender in paints. It adds body to paint. But the main raw material of paints is titanium dioxide. Boysen is rich in titanium dioxide that is why Boysen paints are full bodied paints(makatawan).

Calcium carbonate can be exhausted when the binder that holds the solid powders (titanium dioxide, calcium carbonate and other powders) intact has already been exhausted (roughly 5 years). That is why repainting are usually done 3 to 5 years.

Nevertheless, even when the calcium carbonate is already exhausted, our photcatalytic titanium dioxide will continue to be air cleaning but because calcium carbonate was already used up, discoloration may happen. Anyways, most repainting are done after 5 years so no worry about discoloration.

You're right sir. That's due to the technology used which is not yet done in other paint products.

Anyways, KNOXOUT is not for everyday painting job. It is an advocacy paint. But even if you paint only in a 1 sqm surface in a well lit area, the aircleaning property is already there. For 1sqm painted area, you can clean the KNOX of around 6-8 cars.

Are there any such "paint centers" in Metro Manila or North Luzon?

Sir quad, i think sir austport.paint.center gave us a clue.

Sir austport, nice if you can share some idea on the price of knoxout.
And your location, too

TIA
