I already did some googling about this I want to hear from you guys especially from those who have actual experience in making concrete mixture.

I want to make small concrete slabs (around 12"x12"x3") to be used in a temporary car park I am planning to make in a vacant lot. We live in a rented apartment so I can only construct temporary structures.

The concrete slabs will be laid down on the ground to serve as the garage floor. I dont want to mess up the grass that's why I wanted to use something like a concrete slab. Plus I can take the slabs with me once we leave our current apartment. (Another option of mine is to use metal bars welded together instead of concrete slabs)

Anyway, considering the vehicle load, what do you think is the right cement, sand, gravel and water mixture?

(You can also mention other cement -aggregate-water ratio for other uses if you want. That is for future reference)

@fourtheboys96,

Bro if you are going to make just some few pieces, may I suggest you buy them na lang sa mga plants and garden supply near your place. Making this small slabs may look easy but still will entail a lot of work and materials.

First of all you will have to buy some 2" X 3" wood, can be coco lumber or good lumber, this will serve as your "forma". Then you will make several 'FORMAS" measuring 12" X 12" X 3", or two strips of the 2" X 3" parallel to each other with cut woods in between to make the required 12" X 12".

Now for the concrete mix/aggregate, remember always the "MIXTURE, 1-2-3", 1 bag of cement, 2 parts white sand (.40 m X .40 m X .40 m) container, and 3 parts 1/2" gravel, following the same measurement container. This is the basic mixture for a concrete slab measuring 4' X 6' X 4" thickness.

Now if you will follow the size of 12" X 12" x 3" thickness, you will be able to come up with 28 or 30 pcs slab. Do you have any idea what size of temporary car park you are planing, is it for a single or double car parking space. A 10' X 15 ' would be comfortable enough for a single car IMHO. 😉

HOPE THIS HELPS !!! :p

I am actually considering this for the reason you mentioned.
I already took pictures of the pavement slabs used in parking lots near my office.
I'll try to canvass once i have time.

@ fourtheboys96,

Bro, I just remembered, those 12" X 12" slabs you will find and are being sold at plants and garden supplies might not fit for your intended use 'coz they are only 2" in thickness and are only good for human traffic. I doubt if it will last carrying the weight of your vehicle, it may crack easily.

There is another popular size being used as concrete pavers, its 7 1/2" x 15" x 3" thick which I think are also available at some hardware stores making hollow blocks, just check them out.

What is your plan really, yung dadaanan ba ng gulong lang ang iyong lalagyan or the entire flooring where your vehicle will be parked.

If you really intend on DIYing those slabs, do try incorporating some rebar frames in each slab, gawa ka ng parilya na may sukat na 11" x 11" with some cross members in the middle, this is for the 12" x 12" slab, maybe a 9mm or 10mm will do just to hold the concrete/mortar together to prevent cracking. For this purpose you can use a concrete mixture of 1 x 3 x 2 or 1 x 4 x 1, reducing the use of gravel and adding more on the white sand since hindi naman ito magiging malaking continuous slab. Water ratio will depend on the amount of cement you will use, like if you decide to divide 1 bag of cement in two, you also divide all the components in two, mix every thing then add several pails of water, then let it stand for a while and let the miixture absorb the water. When mixing all, if its still looks dry add more pails of water until you get a well mixed putty like mixture where you can scoop it with your paleta or kutsara (term in a construction site). 😀 😉

Re: Cement, Aggregate, and Water Ratio for Various Uses
