Can anyone tell the standard size(s) of concrete hollow blocks in the Philippines, particularily in Mindanao. I've seen some photos of construction that looks like 18x8x8 inch blocks, but I've also heard of 12 inch and 18 inch blocks. Which would be used in the rural regions of Mindanoa? Thanks!
Re: CHB - Concrete Hollow Blocks
Standard sizes are 40 cm in length and 20 cm in height. Depth is a nominal 4, 5 and 6 inches. These are the standard sizes used throughout the country. And these blocks are not load bearing. A kid can break these blocks with a karate kick.
Re: CHB - Concrete Hollow Blocks
Yep, because of the poor quality of the blocks here in General Santos City and elsewhere in this beautiful country, I have made my own moulds and manufacture my own 220x220x440mm and 110x110x440mm blocks for my house that I am building in Gensan. These blocks have a compresive strength of 500 PSI. All load bearing.
This allows me to build the conventional "western way" without support columns and beams. Good savings on concrete costs.
Re: CHB - Concrete Hollow Blocks
@gary505: Where are you in Mindanao? you can avail the standard CHB 4", 6" , 8" thick in Davao. with desired stength, load bearing or non-load bearing. just specify your requirements @ Pioneer Concrete Hollow Blocks.
Re: CHB - Concrete Hollow Blocks
Fortnapz, where is Pioneer? i have searched and found nothing in the internet -no address or telephone number...
Re: CHB - Concrete Hollow Blocks
Holcim advertises their "Hub" stores where high quality concrete blocks and other things can be bought. However I have been unable to find any Hub outlet or anyone who even knows about their concrete blocks here in the Davao area.
I'd like to locate a source of good quality load bearing CHB in this region, although it will not be a very big order.
