Good day to all PHM masters/members,
please help in accomplishing this church project.
this will probably be the most challenging project i will be doing so far.
and i believe with God's gracious help everything will be done in right way, God's way.

first, i've thought of having the door installed by an expert contractor,
but because of brad rosy's very encouraging offer and advice ,
of handing a helping hand about the project, ( e bakit mo pa pakokontrata e, kaya naman natin yan ).
that's why i decided to DIY this door project.
very inspiring, heartfelt, tagos sa puso brad ( drama ba ).
thanks brad...

with every church members
and every PHM masters/members guidances, ideas and advices,
i believe i can push through with this project ( lakasan ba ng loob ).
from wood hunting ( get ready guys, pupunta na tayo kay sir willyfernando )
plans, design and through the finishing of this project,
from start to finish.

but if along the way of the project, if an experts hand is needed, ...
welcome na welcome siya.

to start it all, here are some bird's eye view of the project.
approximately the size of the main entrance, still in rough condition are
3m for the height and 3.2m for the width.
please help in giving us ideas or design as simple as possible for the entrance door.
all to be made of wood, or maybe combined with glasses.

be informed that the door will be purchase ready made or custom built.
approximately the door will be in sizes of 100cm for the width,
and 230cm for the height.
and we are planning to install 2 doors.
our initial ideas are building frames ( wooden ) to be attached to the concrete post and beams
for these 2 wooden doors to hold on to.

hoping that patience are on your sides, coz i'll be constantly asking questions
along the course of this project.

thanks in advance for all your help...

here are some pics of our church's main entrance....

front from afar...

nearer...

from the inside...

brad rosy and magtukayong joey, and other guys out there who want to join,
schedule na natin yung pagpasyal natin kay sir willyfernando,
first saturday ng march ang plano ko sana.
kahit hindi muna ako makabili ng kahoy, puede ko namang balikan nalang.

collossians 3: 17
" And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks
to God the Father through Him ".

Re: church's door project...need your help/ideas in building.

nice project brader, why not start with a design? I would probably suggest to break the sharp angles by making an arch top door... and would be ideally thick like a workbench top.

wala pa akong final design, imaginations palang,
ang balak ay french type yung gilid, kaso baka kasi hindi bagay.

arch top ?
madali bang DIY yun?

question; should the post and beams be finished first before sizing up the frames ?

pahingi ng designs :thanks:

Just to start with you could introduce a Judas door, (sorry about that). By that I mean a normal sized door let into one of the main doors. You have most probably figured out for your self that a single door would be way too heavy.
Good luck.

Frank's suggestion makes a lot of sense. Looks like opening a large door for a person or two might be cumbersome unless there's an alternative small back or side entrance.

Hey there brader jonathanscruz68,

I'll see if I can post some rough designs for the entrance door in the comings days but if not, I'll give it to you on the set day we visit bro willyfernando in March. But I guess we have to inform bro willy of our visit coz I think he is always busy during Saturdays kasi pa sweldo ng mga tao nya.

Anyway bro jon, count me in on your project, I may not be so reliable on wood works but probably more on design and moral support, or maybe on some metal works if needed. :construction:

We can approach bro balarila for the clear epoxy applications to waterproof that entrance door, it is very effective in waterproofing woodworks, that's what I learned during the EB at balarila's place and since looking at your pics posted e wala pang canopy ang entrance, the planned wooden door might be exposed to the outside elements, sayang naman. 😮

I have some ideas already in mind but rather discuss it with you when we see each other in March, have faith brother, I'm pretty sure most PHM guys will be helping out on this project of yours. :2thumbsup:

you are right brad, may canopy pa ilalagay , kaso because of budget constraint,
mukhang malaki kasi ang gagastusin namin sa canopy.
later project siguro ang canopy.

so you mean hindi dapat unahin yung door ,
canopy muna ?
i'm thinking kasi of finishing the door with all weather finish.

ill be doing also some rough designs on a sheet of paper,
brad timber suggested the arched type,
i thinking lang kung madaling gawin ( DIY ) lang kasi to...

well this will be a very challenging process,
and i believe with all of you guys there,
everything will push smoothly.

sige inform ko si sir willyfernando later...

thanks to your help brad, and God bless you too...

@jon,
ano yung finalized design ng pinto? as in rectangular shape na ba?
kung nariyan ako, lagyan sana natin yan ng concrete mouldings or si bro rosy na lang kaya ang gumawa 😀

frank & jayL,
no idea about the judas door,

Bro jonathanscruz68,

Jon, "Judas Door" is an opening slightly smaller than a regular door installed or provided on a very large or tall door such as in a church. This access door is left open during regular or ordinary days for people who wants to pray inside the church, but of course the main large door, during Sundays or fiestas or other special occasions we see this large main door widely opened to welcome the flocks.

Our church here in Tanay Rizal has one, but because its entrance door opening is quite tall. Jon I don't think you will need this "JUDAS " entrance door because the hight of your door opening is only 3m, so I think with the proper construction of the each panel door and using a really heavy duty door hinges, your 2.30m X 1.0m dimensions will not be difficult to move or swing.

Why do I say this, because I was comparing it to my front door which is about 2.10m X 1.10m in dimension, almost near your provided one door panel size. May I suggest that you use thick hard wood for its main frame coz it will be very heavy, for sure there will be lots of stress points on every wood joints, or if not, a radical approach here bro jon, use 2" GI pipe, gauge 26 for its main frame of each panel, then the joints will be welded together plus it will be provided with flat bars where the wooden planks will be attached be means of carriage bolts.

For sure bro jon walang galaw yang frames na yan compared to the all wooden door frame panel . Initial suggestion lang yan, better to visualize it on paper and I'll post it in the coming days.

Have a nice day and stay safe always !!!! 🙂 :rockf: :p

Re: church's door project...need your help in building.

Bro jon, with regards to the canopy, you can provide muna a temporary canopy , maybe of wooden frames or trusses or welded pipes for the mean time with 3" or 4" GI pipes as its initial posts, then the roofing can be the transparent poly carbonate to keep the sunlight through for continues illumination, or use the standard GI corrugated sheet roofings. 😉 :p  🙂

Re: church's door project...need your help in building.

You can have it like timber's arch-look idea

Or probably frankboase judas-door version (door within a door). This way not much stress ifs given on the hinges since only the small door is usually used for guests.

Or as simple as this...you still have the arch-look but the arch portion isn't moving. That way you just need to make standard rectangular doors
