the project will be divided into two stages of build. first is the main door frame, which includes the jamb and some panels, and the main door itself.
i'm in the first stage of the build, which is the door frame , thru where the door will be hanging.
so it should be strong enough to handle or carry the door throughout it's lifetime...
i'll be using "african iroko" wood, as suggested by sir willyfernando, the only person who distributes this wood in the phillippines.
at the course of this project, i and others here in the community, are hoping to know more about this wood.

to start let me introduce the main man who are going to share his expertise in woodworking and the handling of the bulky, i mean big power tools in the shop.
meet the main man...we call him "apol ".

he will be the man who will accompany me throughout the build.

the plan for the church door is nothing short to the one i presented before...

all corners will be mitered. side with wood panel...you will see development, along the course of the project.

and here's the wips...

to start, we looked for the stocks to be milled...

those are only a handful of the iroko stocks, marami pa yan...

then it is first run into a jointer to establish a trueness on one side of the lumber.
this is one big jointer.

i was able to get hold of the jointer, but the result is a disaster, kaya sa expert ko na pina-ubaya...mag-practice daw muna ako sa maliit, wag sa malaki...

then after the jointer cut the woodpiece to width with the ts...

and then through the thickness planer or the thicknesser.
another big powertool.

i brought my used jap saw, i bought at a surplus shop, and test it's capabilities...
smooth naman kahit papano...

and the result of the mitered tenon...

this is the first day of the wips,and we are able to lay-out the frame, for us to roughly visualize the result of our project.

it's a big day for the first day...big development...

Jon, I'm very happy for you, got your biggest project started and rolling and finally will be able to fulfill the church door.

Matindi pala mga Iroko stocks ni sir Willy, ang dami , pati mga tools pang heavy duty and commercial grade, HANEP !!!! Was this done last Saturday ??

Bro Pm or text me naman sa next na balik mo kay na bro WillyF, gusto ko na makatulong sa project mo, kahit tiga walis lang ng kusot pwede na, hehehehe. Uy marunong din naman akong mag lagare o mag pait ah ! Kahit sa finishing, my belt sander at finishing sander din ako.:D

Another reason bro, I would like to meet the man behind these beautiful lumber stocks, of course si bro Willy F.

Wow. Puro pang industrial ang machine ni willyF. Nakakatakot gumamit, sanay lang ako sa pang DIY tools.

tuesday was my supposed scheduled trip to the shop, but due to the bad weather , i postpone my trip...
if the weather becomes smooth tomorrow i'll be there at willyF's shop, to continue the build.
then saturday will be fine too...

bro rosy, kala ko rin hindi na matutuloy tong project ko na ito, yung church board members naiinip na...:mad:
iroko wood is beautiful, you have to see it for yourself .
sige bro rosy and joey81, you are very welcome to join the build, bryant77 is also interested, para may kasama akong tagabuhat at taga walis ng mga kusot...hehehe...:D
marami kang matutunan dito bro in every course of the project.

Congrats in advance sa project mo bro Jon.

Hindi natin masisisi yung ibang church members mo kung mainip since wala sila masyado idea kung gaano kadaming aspects sa paggawa nyan pero malamang dahil excited lamang sila.

Iexplain mo lang sa kanila or bigyan mo sila ng time frame para ma-appreciate nila. Once matapos yan, sure na sulit ang paghihintay nila :thumbup:

latest wips or updates on the door projects...
sir apol did most of the works, especailly when powertools are used...
i did help on some of the mano mano especially sa pag-papait...

the door frame is almost finish, frame are dry fitted to check for some issues on alignment.

to continue again this coming saturday...
