Hello po. I will start to build our perimeter fence next month (December 01, 2014). below are details.

Width: 14.3 mts
Length: 47.8 mts
Soil Type: Clay (use to be Farm land)
Backfill: 700-800mm

Column size: (250mm x 150 mm) interval of 3150mm
Footing: 500x500x150mm
Depth from natural grade: 750mm

Materials:

CHB 4"
T10 rebar for column & dowels
T9 rebar for stirrups and horizontal bar.

Height of fence from road level is 6ft, do i need a tie beam? where do I place the tie beam? Your comments & suggestions will be very much appreciated.

Maraming salamat po.

Re: Concrete Fence Project

Not an engineer but I've seen concrete fences higher than 6 feet with no tie beam.

Re: Concrete Fence Project

Allow me to chime in on this bro Michael,

May I suggest using the 5" CHB for your perimeter fence instead of the 4" CHB, madaling umuga at matibag yan. And for your column rebars, do increase the sizes, use 12 mm for dowels and columns. Then 10 mm for stirrups and horizontal bars. These would be the basic or standard size of rebars used for fencing. Mahina pag maliliit ang mga bakal.

You can add beams on top of the last line of CHBs installed connected to the column/posts, this will strengthen your walls.

Hope this helps ! 😉

@ fourtheboys96

The tie beam was suggested by my mason, but like you I've seen a lot of fences w/o tie beam. Salamat sa reply.

Re: Concrete Fence Project

@ Rosy,

Salamat po sa tips. Due to limited budget maybe i will use 5"CHB until the backfill level. Tapos sa taas 4"CHB na lang po.

Yes, on top of the last blocks I will finish it with 100mm Lintel beam.

Re: Concrete Fence Project

Im also not an engineer and just finished a concrete fence 5 years ago. My columns are 20x20cm, footing is 60x60. I used 4CHB, same rebars as you did. My property is sloping and some section have as high as 8-10ft. No beams (middle or top). Soil is lime though so very hard.

I think your main concern is water pushing against the walls so that 5" (I use 6" in mine) is a good idea. I also used no12 rebars for the 6 portion.

So far, so good, no movement yet. 🙂

@koykoy

Yes, I'm worried of the outward force of the soil backfill (tambak) as well as the water inrush during rainy season. Thanks for your construction experience.
