Re: Concrete kitchen countertop

souonds interesting kaso parang wala pa atang nakaka try since kokonti lang meron yung machine that perfectly levels a poured cement.

Another option is to make a steel cast for the counter top... that it self is expensive especially since each cast is only applicable for a particular counter hence cannot be used again unless the contractor expects several countertops of the exact same dimensions

Re: Concrete kitchen countertop

This was done on a past project but unfortunately I did not have time to see the process in detail. Some comments though:

Requires high skill/experience.

In general, there is reluctance if not prohibition to share the techniques/knowledge/formulations because it took/takes considerable time/effort/experimentation to acquire and so tends to be considered intellectual property.

Limited choice in color/texture.

Have to do some kind of sealing/treatment initially and probably regularly, I don't remember exactly what, but not maintenance-free. Staining can be an issue.

Issue with carbon footprint of Portland cement production, so not as 'environment-friendly' as it might seem or be claimed to be.

Massive structure, hard surface with not much 'give'.

Anyway, just subjective preference, but in future, we will probably not be doing concrete again. We prefer wood instead. 🙂

Still, an interesting approach to look into is GFRC and if this can be done using locally available materials. The glass used here is not the usual type (used in, e.g., fiberglass/epoxy/wood boats) but I think looks more like cotton candy (?).

Re: Concrete kitchen countertop

ive done it sa aking outdoor kitchen, i used broken glass from softdrink bottles to get thecolorful effect, different colored stones also.....

ang mahal lang dun ay yung grinding disc which i bought abroad for polishing concrete.

the outcome is great... and its a good conversation piece sa mga visitors na nakakakita.

goodluck
