A jaw dropping wip. Galing! Pagalaki ko, hindi ko gagayahin yan. Baka mabaliw ako. 😀

Dumb mistakes will always be dumb mistakes, unless . . . . you learn from it, and then it will be learning experience.

Re: Stair Rails DIY.

napapawow nalang ako !!!
work in pinish na nga!!! :p :p
well maybe because of time constraint,
excited kasing matapos ang project
ang daming time kaya ang ginugugol ng pagsave ng pics, isama mo na resizing, kaya, finishing the project before posting the pics ang nangyayari...

good job chisel, but i still love the finish.
as what doc V says, medyo na-off lang yung tangile stocks.
but still, you have your trademark on your work.
at the end of the day, when you go home from your work or whatever,
and you see your work, and say to yourself, "GAWA KO YAN, GANDA NO ?"
oh diba !!!nakakabaliw yang ginawa mo, yung pa-twist, pa-ikot ikot, ahh ewan ko, hirap gawin yan.

looks like shellac is the way to go na ah !!!
scratch-proof ba yan?

Re: Stair Rails DIY.

It just irritate me the different colors and hue of the tangile after finishing. I have to admit that shellac magnifies the imperfection of the wood. Timber suggested to apply glaze on top of shellac to even out the color and kind enough to try his glaze and the result is dramatic.

Without Glaze

With Glaze apply

Without Glaze

With Glaze apply

And that solves the problem.

Now for the steps.

Been drying this wood for quite sometimes need to prep it again.

First I used the Jointer and it helps me clean it after soak in rain a few weeks ago.

Re: Stair Rails DIY.

Look how much shavings I remove just to flatten one side.

Time to glue them up.

Prepare your clamps.

You will never had enough of them.

Re: Stair Rails DIY.

Update
When the glue dries pass it to the thickness planer.

Position the steps to the concrete and install nylon string for alignment.

Drill 1” diameter hole for the log screw.

Re: Stair Rails DIY.

Bolt securely the upper and lower steps to be use as reference to align all edge of the stair.

Aligning the steps to the nylon string and bolt it securely.

Ease the edge with a quarter round router bit.

Re: Stair Rails DIY.

Completed installing the steps and bolted on.

All edge should be align to each other.

After a week some steps developed crack and potentially ruin my hard work.

Re: Stair Rails DIY.

To remedy the crack and not to further lengthen it I use inlay. With the template and an inlay kit.
