Re: DIY Stair rails

big hand labor there man!

been wanting to upgrade my router army with the new palm 1 1/4 HP dewalt with led light.

i know yellow tools are your favorite eh.

how many coats of water based poly will your stairs negotiate before you say its finished?

id say 5 coats is ok..one day drying in between coats..so that's five days.

Re: DIY Stair rails

Just finish finishing the steps with 5 coats of poly. Time to plugs those holes.

Made the plug using a hole saw with the drill bit remove.

Separating them using the table saw.

Now to flush trim them

Re: DIY Stair rails

There’s no way of avoiding this in order to flush trim the plugs.

Will dealt with that sooner.

Re: DIY Stair rails

Now for the landing to avoid complex measurement and angle calculation I decided to make a template out of scrap
plywood to exactly get the measurement of the landing.

Carefully match the boards for the glue ups.

Used spline for alignment.

Re: DIY Stair rails

And to attach the miter frame I used tongue and grove.

Here’s a scene you never often see on my shop kinda like to frame this. ([COLOR="Purple"] I use hand planes and Bosch tools )

I use the jigsaw to trim the side after tracing with my template and had the chance to feel the GST 80 PBE

Re: DIY Stair rails

I’ve just finished installing the landing.

And also manage to applied stain.

With just one hiccup I used water base poly urethane made by ACE at the time I bought my first can there are still 12 cans available at mall of Asia. Time to buy my 2nd can ACE told me that they pull out there water base poly because it is slow moving . Luckily ACE mega mall help me and find 2 can available at SM Pampanga and if I am willing to wait until next week. So maybe next week I can finally finish this project.

And by the way since I tried the Bosh GST 80 PBE and immediately fell In love with it can’t resist of bringing one home.....:bounceD:......

Re: DIY Stair rails

@chisel,

gorgeous landing bro!

baka matrapik yung mga bisitang bumababa at umistambay muna sa landing mo to appreciate the beautiful grains!

btw.who's gst pbe did you use before?...timber's?

mine is still swiss made..i wonder now where yours is made..

how much did you get it for?

still the same..that jigsaw is a lean mean machine!

lagyan mo kaya ng wainscoting yung side ng landing mo and the other sides of the wall para mas dramatic ang dating!

so..paano kayo dumadaan ni swmbo diyan in the meantime?

nice work brader..hope to see the finished project.
