well, some people are bent on using one product over another for one reason or another. we are open to all opinions and options. maybe you can post your painting schedule of your choice of materials too.
having choices is what the forum is all about anyway...

Re: [H] Paano po pagpaint ng wall?

An alternative (for new concrete only) that doesn't need all the many steps and associated waiting time would be mineral paint. No neutralizer, no washing off, no primer coat. Just apply the recommended number of coats of mineral paint directly on the cured concrete.

Supposedly, mineral paint would be 'breathable', instead of sealing, which could be an advantage when there is potential for trapped moisture problem. Also has a different look/texture than impervious coatings that some may find appealing.

Not saying better than conventional paint, just an option to consider.

Re: [H] Paano po pagpaint ng wall?

Good day sir!

If new concrete, kailangan ng 14 to 28 days na curing time bago tayo magpintura.

Huwag purong neutralizer and ilagay.

1st Coat: Boysen Flat Latex #701
Putty: Boysen Masonry Putty (masilya)
2nd & 3rd Coat: either Flat Latex, Semigloss Latex or Gloss Latex

Sir, your post is so informative. Ngayon ko lang nalaman. My questions are.

Thank

Flat latex paint is the commonly used primer for interior applications.

To be honest, its Ok. The concrete neutralizer, only works by removing alkali build up by using acid. (normally weak acid, if it is strong they recommend you to add water in the label). If it is already neutralized, the alkali in your wall will not attract moist that may damage the paint.

Cement is naturally humectant in nature, it attracts moist in the air, making your wall perspire.. This is bad for your paint, it will strip off your paint from the wall, that's why curing or neutralizing is important.

Re: [H] Paano po pagpaint ng wall?

ah ok....kwestyun po ulit. need po ba talagang lasunin muna ang concrete wall kahit matagal na siyang naitayo like more than a year na? or pwede na siya primer agad kung ganun nakatagal? anu po ba ang magiging cause ng hindi pag lason ng wall kahit matagal ng naitayo? thanks in advance po

Re: [H] Paano po pagpaint ng wall?

i would suggest to neutralize it, even after a year old or so na ang concrete.
i have experienced cracking of paints in some areas when we did not neutralized the concrete even after a year or so old.
para hindi na maabala, better to neutralized since madali lang naman i-apply ang neutralizer, and let it stay for 24 hours at least before applying the primer.

Re: [H] Paano po pagpaint ng wall?

correct me if i am wrong but after i have applied the neutralizer, i let it stay overnight or upto 48 hours and wash off the white flakes (by scrubbing or by pressurised water hose)...when i feel the wall is completely dry from all the cleaning i then apply the primer.

in one Ace paint label, i read that a month old concrete need no neutralizer anymore and should be ok with the first coat of primer..i am talking about my favorite Stain Halt by Ace. (does the acid in the cement eventually wear off? i dont know...)

and thankfully recently paint companies came up with a bright idea of these siliconized paints acting well as a moisture barrier...i just make sure i painted the exterior wall twice of the same paint before i do the interior...

but hey guys, if there is a better way than what i know please share it then.

(coz painting walls are the things i enjoy most in DIY weekends);)

Re: [H] Paano po pagpaint ng wall?

thanks for the inputs sirs...i also asked others opinion about the same matter and yes, they said that if its already a year, then we can actually put primer directly to our wall even without having it neutralized and to violaine, quite curious lang po coz if this stain halt by ace shows the same on its label while others don't...uhmmmm di po kaya possible lang siya for this particular brand?

Re: [H] Paano po pagpaint ng wall?

@euqihn18, I used Nation N1540 flat latex to prime my un-neutralized interior walls. Makapit naman siya. A 16-liter pail is about P1,100 at my suking hardware store.

[/HTML]

could be...stain halt is relatively expensive kasi (but can be used to primer wood, metal and bare concrete but specifically for wood to cover nail heads with the tendency to corrode and stain the paint) ...there are suitable cheaper products locally available at any hardware or home depot that are intended to primer a concrete wall and i believe the right way to go.

iirc, these newer acrylic latex paints can be used as a primer already.

like joey said, usually the paint label will recommend the brand's primer paint and should be followed for best results.
