Re: [H] Paano po pagpaint ng wall?
For Interior concrete walls I usually do as follows:
Neutralize with Boysen conc. neutralizer(any brand will do)
Wash off crystalline deposits
Prime withfor exterior applications:
prime with boysen acrytex primer.
putty with acrytex cast
sand until smooth
finish with either acrytex top coat, semi gloss latex or any exterior elastomeric paint.HTH!
Thank you for this information. I'm currently looking for a painting contractor and was given a quotation with the following scope:
B. WALL CONCRETE
1. Scrapping and Sanding and Cleaning
2. Two (2) Coats Skim Coat Rendering Paste, pull Putty
3. One (1) Coat Concrete Sealer Primer
4. Spot Concrete Putty or Skim Coat Paste and Skim Coat Powder 1k
5. Spot Concrete Sealer Primer
6. Two (2) Coats Megacryl Latex Paint light Color Top Coat.
WATER PROOFING SYSTEM
EXTERIOR CONCRETE WALL
1.) Scrapping, Sanding and Cleaning
2.) One(1) Coat Mortaflex Water Proofing Mix Cement
For Vertical Direction
3.) Spot Mortaflex Mix Cement
4.) One (1) Mortaflex Water Proofing Mix Cement for Horizontal Direction.
PAINTING SYSTEM
EXTERIOR CONCRETE WALL
1. Two(2) Coats Skim Coat Rendering Paste
2. One (1) Coat Liquid Tile Primer
3. Spot Liquid Tile Putty or Skim Coat Paste Type
4. Spot Lquid Tile Primer
5. Two (2) Coats (SR) Sun and Rain Elastomeric Paint light Color
Do you think some of the steps here are unnecessary? I did tell the supplier that I don't want to see any watermarks or black rainwater streaks on the wall. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Hello! We are planning to paint our exterior walls ourselves. Mainly because, it will contribute to lessen the expenses escpecially on labor.
Mind if I ask, what are the the steps in painting exterior walls? Including waterproofing please.
We already finished painting our living room and some of the bedrooms. I was beginner on painting so I visited this site and gathered information. Some visitors are shocked on the result not knowing that a young one can paint a house. Props to this wonderful website where I got all the ideas. And now, I'm moving on to the my next step. Paintting exterior walls. A schedule of painting will help me a lot. Thank you very much.
I have a brief knowledge though. But not on waterproofing.
1. Prepare wall..sand rough wall parts, then remove dirt and dust.
we will neutralize it using Boysen Concrete Neutralizer to be sure. Wait for a day or two, then remove salt-like particles using water. Wait to dry.
2. Use Primer. Acrytex Primer. Up to 2 coats. Observe time between coats.
3. Use putty on rough or cracks using Acrytex Masonry Putty. Wait to dry.
4. Top coat desired paint color. up to two coats.
Uhm, I want to be sure that there will be no moist inside the house. So I want to waterproof paint it. What is the paint to be used? How to apply? I saw house especially with firewalls painted with a blackish or grayish paint. Is it for water proofing? And where should I insert the waterproofing step? Is there any step to be skipped on my procedure? Thanks a lot!
and what is the best paint for window grills pala at angle bar fencing? Meron na pong primer to. Thanks!
I had my house built 4 years ago here in the city of pines. My contractor explained that before painting new concrete walls, you should wait at least a month for the concrete to properly dry after which you apply concrete neutrlizer. spray wash the ff day and let it dry for 24H. the next thing they did was apply Davies Liquid Tile Penetrating Sealer followed by Liquid Tile Cast. After which Boysen Flat Latex Permacoat was applied and the last is your choice Latex - based topcoat. I found out less than 2 years after that the Davies Liquid Tile series (Boysen Acrytex Equivalent) is very ineffective here in Baguio as my paint has been flaking and peeling as it cannot seal the concrete properly against moisture. Not to mention that the Liquid Tile series is also expensive. I researched and found out that in areas/countries that have high humidity, they use cementitious base primer on concrete walls (old or new) before laying down the paint primer. So right now I'm in the process of stripping the old paint to the bare concrete. So what we are doing right now, stripped the old paint to bare concrete, washed with water let dry for 24H and wiped with lacquer thinner, we then we applied 2 coats of Boysen Plexibond (mixed with cement) and the imperfections applied with Skim Coat (Ultra Fino). Slight bumps were sanded to smoothen them out. Next layer is 2 coats Boysen Flat Latex Permacoat and then the final coat Boysen Healthy Home (2 coats). Now I can say that the finish and consistency is way far better than we did 4 years earlier. I just finished repainting 1 room, btw..
So my advise is for new and old bare concrete, a cementitious base primer is way better than solvent - based sealing products (ie Liquid Tile from Davies and Acrytex from Boysen)....
Like painting a car, the "secret" to a beautiful and lasting paint is proper surface preparation...

The black walls you see could be painted with Bitumen/Coal Tar and the grayish wall could be Thoroseal concrete waterproofing paint.
Waterproofing is your last step, it prevents rain water seeping on external concrete firewalls.

Just a follow up question.
Good day, can I apply a coating after that thoroseal or coal tar? My desired topcoat maybe? Because I want my walls to have uniform color.
A former painter here in our locality recommended Plexibond, then prime with Boysen Acrytex, then spot with putty (Acrytex), then the desired topcoat. Is this good too?
Thanks a lot.
Cheers!

I would not mix water-based and oil/solvent-based surface preparation materials if i were you. It will just be a matter of time and surely this concoction will result in flaking and peeling paint. Just apply at least 2 coats of Plexibond on the bare concrete followed by 2 thin layers of ultra fine skim coat. Sand lightly imperfections to smoothen the surface then apply 2 coats of your base primer (ie. boysen flat latex permacoat, etc) followed by 2-3 coats of your desired top coat...
Experienced & knowledgeable painters will usually advise this: If you use Acrylic, use straight acrylic all the way from the primer to the top coat, same with lacquer and Polyurethane. Also do not mix water-based (Latex) and oil/solvent-based paints
