Re: How to map this technical description of a parcel of land?

Are you wanting to know the location of this parcel on the planet, or wanting to draw the shape? The location is impossible to know given the information. The shape is easy to draw if you know basic trigonometry -- it is not necessary to know civil engineering or any other 'profession', only high school mathematics.

In particular, given a right triangle, the length of its hypotenuse, and one of its angles, do you know how to compute the lengths of its sides?

Not an expert, but when plotted noticed it does not close at a corner. Best talk to the surveyor. Cant upload photos but is like a tilted rectangle.

Just want to know what are the sides to north, east, west south? Some thing like is the point 1 to point 2 is at north, or west, east or south

Re: How to map this technical description of a parcel of land?

If the first point is at the origin (0, 0), then the coordinates of the points are
Point 1 : (0, 0)
Point 2 : (-2.378, 5.367)
Point 3 : (0.952, 7.742)
Point 4 : (3.419, 2.174)

Can you plot these coordinates?

The positive y-axis points to whatever N is. If the survey bearings are relative to true (as opposed to magnetic) north, then the positive y-axis points to true north.

The x and y components of the segment vectors add up to -0.005 and -0.008, respectively, so it can be concluded that the polygon is closed (to within <1 centimeter).

Hi there angelo, i guess your saying how to plot those coordinates?here's how: you'll need a protractor, t-square or just a triangle will do. first make a cross (+) the intersection would indicate your fist point, the origin or (0,0) upper line indicates north, the opposite is south, left would be west and right is east. when you draw the horizontal & vertical lines of the cross, make it a little longer than the length of the protractor. now youre ready to plot the first coordinate which is N23deg 54' w, place the protractor where its 0 - 180 degrees line aligned to the vertical line you drew, middle of the protractor should be at the point 0,0...now mark the 23 degrees starting from north, not the south, protractor should be at the west side or left of the cross. nevermind the minute value.when you already marked it.make a line from the origin going to the point u marked as 23deg.now measure that line up to how long it is or say 5.87m. use one centimeter to a meter scale or 1:100...when you already measured youre 5.87m line. draw another cross at the end of that line.that end point will be point 2. use the protractor again to find 54deg from the right side or east side as you need to plot a line to north east this time, then again & again till you'll end up to the point of origin.many times, coordinates you'll see specially on land titles have typo errors, instead of S, its N or north or E replaced with W.better know where is NE,NW, SE,& SW and check wether your drawing was not closing up to a rectangular if thats the shape of your lot...

If you have autocad
just input this on your line command:
Command: l LINE Specify first point:
Specify next point or [Undo]:
Specify next point or [Undo]: @5870<n23d54'w
Specify next point or [Undo]: @4090<n54d30'e
Specify next point or [Close/Undo]: @6090<s23d54'e
Specify next point or [Close/Undo]: @4060<s57d29'w

i already plotted those coordinate, but can't seem to upload the pdf file though...just new to this site...:)
