Re: How to solve molds build on concrete pavement

Bro froilanr,

Thank you very much for your effort and time posting, but bro when I visited the site/link you suggested, well that is the same product I was talking about in my first post which I purchased from a mall hardware near our place, I do have also a copy of the brochure and have read it quite well to follow instructions.

Any way bro I will give it another round of experimental application but hopefully it does not rain for a week or two so that I can wire brush a portion of my concrete driveway and apply the solution then let the concrete flooring absorb this anti moulds/fungi/algae solution. :p

Salamat muli brad !

Re: How to solve molds build on concrete pavement

Thank you.

Re: How to solve molds build on concrete pavement

OK mga bros, I have here some pics of what I was talking about, I was able to take pics of my driveway, well some portions of it since it was not raining the whole day yesterday and today.

And here are the pics:

This is my driveway and the turning bay before going up the ramp.

Some close up of the concrete pavement being covered by molds and moss. 😮

Re: How to solve molds build on concrete pavement

Some more details of the driveway :

The pavement concrete bricks are slowly being covered by moss/algae.

And even the whole road or driveway with concrete pavers going up my turning bay is being covered by moss.
This is a shot on a higher portion of the driveway, looking down straight before reaching the main gate.

I will try all the suggested possible solutions, do some experiments on different portions and find out what will be the best effective and long lasting chemical/solution.

Re: How to solve molds build on concrete pavement

On flat inclined slab, I've used copper (a la "flooring strip") with some success. I
bought some copper flatbar in a scrapyard --Valenzuela, I think, but that was a
fair number of years ago. I laid down horizontally, but 'standing' on-edge, in the
highest construction joint running across the width of an inclined RC slab ramp,
the upper edge of the bar flush with the slab finish.

Rain washes some of that copper off: with our slightly-acid rain, the result seems
to be weak copper sulphate solution, which is toxic to mosses and algae.

It won't necessarily kill off any growth that's aready thick, but it'll allow the results
of your scrubbing last longer. In fact, this is the solution commercially-offered for
Northern European issues with roof moss/lichen, but there are a few problems
with using it for pavement, and here in the tropics:

If the pavement is broken up, or has construction/expansion joints that divert the
copper washoff away from parts of the slab, sayang lang. Also, with a LOT of rain,
the solution is too weak and transitory to have an impact. Finally, copper may leave
a pale greenish patina on your pavement... but then you're already dealing with a
greenish coloration that also doubles as a safety hazard for kids and adults alike.

For pavers like Rosy's, I suppose one could drill shallow holes in the center of each,
and plant an upright peg of naked solid-copper wire at the highest point, the wire-
head (of course) flush with the paver finish. Or... you could lay bare copper wire in
between the pavers --although the runoff from the wire woouldn't really seem to
get to where it was needed: the TOP of the pavers.

Try it on a small scale and see if it works.
Cheap enough to experiment, and if it doesn't work... not a lot of sweat wasted.

hth,
horge

Re: How to solve molds build on concrete pavement

3 or 4 weeks ago I intentionally disposed of some excess rust converter on our bare concrete driveway.

Now I can clearly see where I poured the rust converter, because the adjacent area is now full of lumot.

Re: How to solve molds build on concrete pavement

HAHAHAHAHA, I guess bro its the acid content in the solution, like in a portion sa terrace ko where my two dogs would regularly make weewee, that portion of concrete ay walang lumot, naka exposed yung concrete very clearly, so I guess its the acidic content in the weewee too.

So I guess I will try experimenting on some bottles of muriatic acid and find out if it will also work on eradicating those molds and algae.

Re: How to solve molds build on concrete pavement

The best and easiest way to remove and clean mold build-ups on concrete is by using a pressure washer. It will take less time and make your concrete pavement and bricks look like new.

Re: How to solve molds build on concrete pavement

Well, I have been researching on this and watching several videos on YouTube on the subject and sort of being convinced by using a power washer with 3000 PSI or a bit less plus some anti lumot products available in our local market. I do believe it will make the job easier and faster since I have a quite large driveway and turning bay covered with molds and algae. Might as well be sealing the whole area to prevent build up of this algae( lumot ). 😮

Re: How to solve molds build on concrete pavement

I don't know about here in the Philippines because I haven't actually tried it here, but when I had this problem in the US, what I was advised to do by a "concrete specialist" in Home Depot was to thoroughly clean the pavement with a stiff bristle brush, then allow it to completely dry. After, use a broad spectrum plant killer (believe me, it KILLS EVERYTHING). Spray it generously on the pavement and allow it to be absorbed. Lastly, when the top of the pavement is dry, use a sealer and seal the crap out of it. You'll have to seal your driveway every 6 months or so. Concrete is very porous and acts like a sponge for moisture. Knowing that, we use it to our advantage by allowing it to absorb the plant killer, having it do its work deep down in the concrete. Then sealing it to prevent too much moisture to get in. Moisture is the main reason mold and algae forms. Hope this helps.

Re: How to solve molds build on concrete pavement

Mostly 100 bar of pressure kaya na talaga..
Pag lumagpas pa, sobrang lakas na nun.. Hindi na rin pwede pang carwash, pang linis nalang siguro ng Concrete.. 🙂
