hi,

i got a 1.5m wall to wall distance and i'm planning on putting up a 6' high pull up bar around 1.5" or 2" thick of round pipe.

i weigh ~160# (this may go higher if i 'kip' or do a 'muscle up'). my question is if i drill holes on both walls 2" deep to bury the ends of the pipe, will that be sufficient to support my weight? is there any chance that the pipe will bend while supporting me that will cause it to slide out of the holes?

Re: i'm putting a pull up bar 🙂

Nice to have a pull up bar in the house for some morning exercises.

Perfect for ones grip is 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" round pipe, forget about the 2" diam. pipe,
you won't be able to hold on to it firmly as you do your pull ups. Installing it, there is another,
instead of drilling or chipping concrete some 2" deep on both sides of the wall, why not just
measure your pipe to the width of the wall with a bit of space, then just weld two flat plates
at each end , say 4" X 6", drill holes on four corners of the plates, then attach it to
the wall by using four anchor bolts on its end. Ang tibay na nyan ! :superhero:

Worry not about the pipe bending, its not that long plus I can attest to that coz I have one
attached to one of my door jamb. 😉

the aim that i have for 2" is to improve grip 🙂

yes, i've thought of welding it with plates, with lag bolts, but i think 'burying' it in the concrete (aesthetically) will reveal a 'cleaner' look rather than having a plate showing up (even if the bolt heads are countersunk).

door jamb? wood?

Yup !! wooden door jamb with three heavy duty screws on each end. I use the pull up bar for leg raise exercises and I weigh 160 lbs too or sometimes less.

Re: i'm putting a pull up bar 🙂

astig, hanging leg raises...

i still can't do it lol!

honestly, i can't even do 1 pull up 🙁

all i can do is a 20s flex hang and a 20s dead hang and a 10s reverse pull up... still a long way to go

same situation for a chin up (underhand grip) 🙁

5'9", 160# with 'fl'abs in the midsection and skinny arms and legs (for my built)
