greetings handymen.
my house is currently being built in a gated community in quezon city. problem is, the nearest meralco post is 70 meters from our service post.
meralco is charging me P270,000 for installation of 2 posts and a transformer and P30,000 for deposit.
the village association said they wont pay for it.
is this really the only way for us new home builders to have an electrical service from meralco? P300,000 is a lot of money for me and this was not factored in our construction budget.
please help!
TIA

Is the gated community you are referring to a subdivision? If it is then it should be for the account of the developer.

Re: meralco post installation help

a friend of mine bought 2 adjacent lots. the meralco post is directly in between the 2 lots. he requested meralco to transfer the post to left perimeter fence of his left side lot so that the post would not be blocking the facade and have clear view of his house without any interference. however, if you move the post to the left, the distance of the post to the next post on the right would be increased which add pressure on the cable. so meralco advised him to shoulder the cost of 1 post which will be put on the right perimeter fence of his right lot. it costed him 20,000 php. this was just last year.

i really do not understand why meralco would be charging you for the transformer when infact you will not be the only one using that transformer in the future. these are supposed to be part of the amenities and services being rendered to the homeowners of a gated subdivision.

Re: meralco post installation help

Thanks for the replies. 20k seems reasonable for a post. I asked the same question re: the need for a transformer since I'm the only house that will hook up to that post. As for the village association shouldering the costs, i'd probably wait till hell freezes over before they spend a single cent.
I'll be asking for a site visit by meralco and insist that a 4 bedroom house doesn't need a separate transformer.

We have a commercial property with a Meralco post right smack in the middle of the property so that 1 of the 4 parking spots could not be used. We requested Meralco to move the post a couple of feet so that it wasn't blocking the parking lot. We weren't charged anything for it. This was about 5 years ago, I guess Meralco changed their policy on post relocation.

Re: meralco post installation help

if they are charging you that amount of money for a post and a transformer, tell them nobody can use it but you. unless they refund you of the cost once others start befitting from your investment.

kung subdivision yan, responsibilidad yan ng developer.

I guess they'll allow it at no cost if it will not cause too much tension and cables can withstand it. But if you will be moving it too far away from one of the adjacent posts, the cable would be too heavy and may not be able to withstand it. That's why there's standard distance between posts depending on the post size, cables, etc. If few feet won't do any harm, it's but right for Meralco not to charge.
