Bro ernie_serrano,

Just looked at the links you posted, awesome projects you did there, ang galing mo talaga friend.
May I ask bro how's your assessments of those light metal frames as its main skeleton of the said projects ? Any foreseen problems in the future regarding the light frames and sturdiness of the walls ?

I am just so curios if it will last long., Thanks in Advance bro !!!

Re: Modular Pod Homes

my house still stands now, problems lang is the joint tapes for the exterior has started to peel off, the paint is ok naman. im still experimenting up to now on how to really solve that problem. even the system that james jardine thought us for the joints did not really solve the joint problem, i tried using the system in one of my projects, high end pa naman kaya i was hoping it will work. GANUN din.

the interior of our house is good, no problem what so ever.

the ADB tower project, if you notice the design na there is a parapet? well anything exposed to sun and rain suffered the fastest deterioration of materials. in a few months rust started forming sa steel frame. apparently, even covered with hardiflex water wood still seep into the metal frame. i asked james jardine about that, the answer i got it that the cement boards are weather proof but not water proof.

so i guess the design of the structure should match din if you will be using the system of building with light steel frame

Yes Bryan, so far so good. I think it's a matter of house you fastened it sa foundation. The strongest storm with wind was peping , that was after ondoy. House was relatively new back then so I had to stay up all night checking if there will be a problem

Re: Modular Pod Homes

Hey bro ernie_serrano,

Bro I have a question that I've been wanting to ask you before regarding these light metal studs or framing you used on your several projects specially those links you shared.

Are these light metal studs or frames made of aluminum or galvanized steel ? Isn't it also advisable to coat them with some metal epoxy primer so seal the metal and prevent rusting on the surface before installing all those ficem or hardiflex board claddings ???

The idea of using these building materials may look so cool but in the long run, in the end babagsak din pala ang bahay pag all those studs have been eaten up by rust !!! Yes we can say its easy to build and install these construction material pero wala rin palang tibay. Lalong lalo na kung mababad sa tubig baha. 😮

TIA for your reply :thanks:

Bro Ernie, for light steel frames, when do you use screws and when rivets? Seen from sites some uses rivets while others just use the black screws? Tia.

Re: Modular Pod Homes

I stopped using rivets years ago.
if rivets kasi you will need a set of drills with a certain type of drill bit size, then a riveter, then pag nag palit ang workers to screw bits then nawala na yung drill bit. i end up spending more in terms of accessories, and yung consumables ko is nawawala lang instead of nagagamit. so the price difference ng using screws versus blind rivets for me is negligible na

Re: Modular Pod Homes

Hey bro Ricky or ernie, can you kindly explain what is that " black screws" you are talking about, just got me curious if that is another of those special screws for such special applications.

TIA

Re: Modular Pod Homes

Thanks @ Ka ricky:)

It's truly enlightening yung mga sinabi mo. True...na stock ang mga Pilipino sa lumang technology. Majority doesn't want any changes. Hindi nila alam na that changes is part of progress.

Sir, i dont agree with your statement na nastuck yung pinoy sa lumang technology. Geological factors and climate are the first thing to consider when adapting modern technology/process of construction.

Its not about change after all.

Anyway, i'd like to share you this link.

Re: Modular Pod Homes

isa sa question dyan is if Habitat for Humanity was doing t before, is it still being done now or did they abandon this system? next if they did abandon it, WHY? then if they are still doing it now, How are the units DOING?

Sir, hindi ba kalawang yung naging problema dun? malapit sa dagat yung Baseco kaya nila inabandona yung project?

Re: Modular Pod Homes

Rosy, yung black screw is actually the gypsum screw. Nakavawian lang na taw agin black screw kasi I think sa jobsite mad maintindihan ng mga trabahador Kung sabihin mo black screw gamitin nyo or yung black screw kesa sabihin sa Manila na gypsum screw
