If I remember correctly, the manual transfer switch selects which source to connect to the house wiring. I've seen these made from circuit breakers with a manual interlock such that only one source is switched on at a time. In this case, use the house amperage to determine the breaker to connect to Meralco. The breaker to connect to the genset should be rated according to the wattage (more correctly voltage-amperes VA) of the genset.

I guess that the amperage of the manual transfer switch should not exceed the amperage of the genset. Divide the VA of the genset with the output voltage to get the amperage. For example, if your genset has a VA rating of 6,600 at 220 volts, then it will output 30 amps.

there is also a double pole double throw switch using a pair of fuse which means the amp limit for both meralco & genset is the same

you are talking about a small genset suitable for the house sir?if yes, you can use a double throw disconnect switch.with this device you manually switch to either on meralco side or the genset side.and about the ampere rating, depende po yon sa susuplyan mong equipment sa bahay nyo.30A will be be just fine for lightings and and some small appliances such as tv, dvd while for the 60A you can add atleast 1 AC unit.depende po talaga sa iloload mo sa genset and sa capacity ng genset nyo.
