We built a basic house for one of the relatives in Leyte.

(sorry under post count to post link, just put the dot (.) between words)

We need to replace the roof, which is nipa now.

My wife wants to use GI sheets, but I think it will create heat within
the house.

I saw a building in Tacloban, that first used GI sheets, but on to of
that they installed nipa. I think the nipa would keep the steel roof from
getting too hot, and keep the house cool.

Does anyone know the procedure for doing something like that?

I'm guessing they put battens on top of the GI sheets then tied the nipa onto it.

Re: Nipa over GI sheet roof

Your answer to your insulating needs will be to use a ceramic insulating coating on your gi roofs. This coatings are designed with three separate ceramics. Two are reflective; the other acts as a dead air space between the coating surface and the substrate. This allows it to be an actual insulating coating, not just a reflective coating. The acrylic resin acts to bind all the other resins and ceramics together and provides a vapor barrier in the dry film similar to the paper backing on batt insulation.

It has two reflective ceramics to reflect sunlight and radiant heat while the third compound works to stop heat and/or cold conduction through the coating film. The combination of acrylics provide elasticity and toughness with the urethane providing the binding for the acrylics and compounds while also providing a moisture barrier.

In the Philippines, you can ask for Ceramicoat elastomeric insulating coating by calling Mr Jim Burgos, Marketing Manager of Flexseal at 466-3328 for more details of the product. Hope this helps.

Re: Nipa over GI sheet roof

This an old post. Anyway iam inerested in it because nipa has a short lifespan and artificial ones I found in china are still expensive for me. I will experiment bycovering the g.I.roof with asphalt bitumen and stick nipa leaves on it. I hope it works. Or doublesided butyl tape and attach the nipa leaves in rows
