I think I am posting in the right forum here. After all, I am actually building a house...all by myself!

This is Pepper, our new baby.

She likes snuggling in small, dark corners so I decided to build a small house for her.

Layouting.

Plan is just in my head. Making this up as I go along.

After about an hour, started gluing and nailing. Shoot! Forgot to take WIP photos!

Next, the roof.

Re: Pepper's House

The roof was done with two rectangular scrap plywood braced together with a small triangle and made to be removable for easy clean-up of the interior. Sorry, no photo of that.

Decided to get a bit fancy.

Cut some long 4-inch width scrap plywood and did some layouting.

Nailed the strips together so I can bandsaw them at the same time. Saves a lot of time.

Did some more cutting into little pieces then sprayed primer .

Lesson learned: tape down little pieces when spraypainting them. I had to chase each piece as they flew off everytime the spray hits at an angle.

Nailed them with plastic nails and trimmed some edges. The underside is primered. Will Primer the top later.

HAHAHA, hope Google won't have any problem having a new black cat around his territory. 😀

By the way that is a cute little house for Pepper but I am sure he/she will outgrow it in no time and would rather just be lying around in some soft and comfortable blanket or pillow. 😉

Hah! Got a carpet for that house and will put in lots of throw pillows.

Lagyan ko sana ng jacuzzi pero I realized cats don't take baths like us.

Made a baseboard (of that's what it's called) yesterday and primered. Tonight, top coats.

Thinking about a border on the arched door same color as the roof and baseboard. What do you think?

This weekend, will change my bandsaw blade to a thin one and cut out "Pepper" to be glued atop the door.

Re: Pepper's House

Surprised SWMBO with the new cathouse and her reaction was not very pleasant. She thought I bought it, which was a good thing because that meant it looked like a pro job. But she found it too dainty and does not match our home at all.

So, trying a different style now.

Since I do not have any more ¾” plywood, I’m using some 1/4” scrap plywood and strengthening it with some scrap palochina framing. Here it is being glued up.

Decided to get a bit fancy with the joinery.

Re: Pepper's House

Did a bit of trigo to get the angles where the two faces of the peaked roof meet.

Nice fit. Oops, forgot the door! :p

Cut the arched door but the edges of the plywood is visible so decided to edge it with some bent wood. First, made a jig on which to bend the wood.

Didn’t have time to build a steam box so I decided to use my heat gun. That was a big failure. Although the wood started to bend, it got burnt before I could complete the curve.

Will have to go for a different approach...

Re: Pepper's House

Here's my attempt at bending wood using a heatgun.

Terrible.

So I set the door aside for a while and focused on the roof. Ripped some thin planks of palo china, stained it to give it that old weathered pine look and made shingles.

Made an angular plank for the peak of the roof.

Re: Pepper's House

Went back to the door. I recall SWMBO has an inclination towards Japanese architecture and decors so decided to cut the door rectangular and framed it into a shrine.

Also stained the frame with oil color while the house columns and baseboards with dark brown oil stain to match the roof.

Almost done.

But that's a great idea. You can buy some chinese rugs and throw pillows on the floor. It will be very comfortable and soft for the child. And adults will be delighted with the room with carpets where you can drink tea and relax.
