Best of both worlds: flexibility and ease of use of PVC pipes and the durability of GI pipe threads.

The PVC pipe will be embedded in concrete. The only exposed part will be business end of the GI pipe.

Re: PVC plumbing tricks

That's good. It's not a good idea to expose PVC pipes.

You may also want to look at HDPE pipes. They're less brittle and much more flexible so no need for bends on mild angles. You can fuse connections (better leak resistance) or make use of compression fittings so no need for solvents.

Re: PVC plumbing tricks

You may also want to use stainless elbows and fittings on the exposed part. Easier to work on in 5 years kasi walang rust.

I'm after the durability of the thread. PVC threads are delicate, over-tighten the faucet head and you're in for a major headache!

Besides, hindi rin naman ganun kalinis yung tubig na galing sa Manila Water. That's why the filtered water industry is booming, right? 😉

Sorry, Joey, I disagree with your statement about Manila Water water. I work, after all, in Manila Water. Not sure about the ethical rules about promoting one's product on this site but my intent is, really, just to correct a possible misinformation about our water supply.

There are more than 800 sampling points in the water distribution system regularly and jointly tested by DOH, MWSS, and Manila Water and they ALL pass. Bottom line: If your water comes from Manila Water directly (i.e. you don't store it in a tank or cistern and you don't do any further treatment to it) it is safe to drink. Let me repeat: it is safe to drink.

I must admit that, several years back, it was not. The distribution system was, before Manila Water (1997), riddled with leaks and water supply was not 24hours that, during water outages, contaminants could infiltrate the pipelines making the water risky for potable use. But now that 99%+ of the system is 24x7 pressurized, the bad stuff can't get in. Water from the plants also come out clean all the time and have residual chlorine as added protection.

Note that Manila Water production is strictly regulated. I cannot say the same for water stations.

Manila Water covers about half of Metro Manila (eastern part) and province of Rizal. Metro Manila Coverage is 99+% while Rizal is ongoing. Manila Water also provides wastewater services and is helping save our rivers. If any one of you would want to know if you are in Manila Water area, just PM me your address and I'll let you know.

I could go on and on about this. If anyone is interested, I can always arrange for an orientation/briefing for interested groups

To the admins, my apology if this is OT but I do believe a health/safety/environmentasl issue is an important one.

Re: PVC plumbing tricks

@ding,

Hahaha! 😀 (laughing at myself, not at your post)

While typing that reply, I was thinking: "I'm going to hear something from Ding about this."

I apologize for implying that your water is unsafe for drinking. Fact is, I do drink it
straight from the faucet. We buy filtered water kasi maselan si SWMBO (we have arguments about that every once and a while).

My point was the GI fitting at the end of the PVC pipe won't be introducing that much contaminants.

Thank you for keeping us informed :thanks: and again my apologies.

Re: PVC plumbing tricks

i dream of the time when manilans can drink straight from the tap..

with households equipped with water pumps, i still consider my water to be unsafe for drinking..just the thought of it (water borne animalcules as AVLeeuwenhoek calls them) makes my tummy to wrangle a bit.

and why so many diggings here and there...especially on the Guadalupe/Boni Edsa area? and another the perennial traffic between the c5 east service road till tesda due to maynilad ongoing (decade long) construction. Can you make it perfect the first time?

i just wish the future pipes are elevated instead of burying them to the ground.

i cannot breathe anymore!

Re: PVC plumbing tricks

I agree with Ding, before the mineral water fad came in, some/most of us drink straight from the faucet, and this is still the time of the MWSS. The water Manila Water is much cleaner than before, yet everybody wants mineral water.

With the cut throat competition between the water stations, who can be sure that none of them are cutting corners already? :juggle:

Dumb mistakes will always be dumb mistakes, unless . . . . you learn from it, and then it will be learning experience.

Re: PVC plumbing tricks

Mga Sirs san po mka bili ng HDPE pipe and Fittings The cheapest store po out there
ano po ang kulay ng pipe na eto? pwede po ba eto sa hot water? im planning to instal ksi heater. Ung HDPE pipe po ba me series din?
Im planning to change my water piping system ksi sabi ung blue pipe daw ay me lead content (hndi ko na lng e memention ung brand name) and using solvent to join the pipes is not a good idea especially if its exposed sa init ng araw dahil niluluto ung chemicals ng blue pipe at solvent.
just want to clarify things.
