Hello sirs! How do I get a semi gloss or "eggshell" finish on a metal/steel surface? I don't want the finish kasi of the regular quick dry enamel since its too shiny and it highlights the imperfections sa welding joints, etc. I don't want to use a flat finish naman since it would look like a primer paint. Hope you guys can help. Thanks guys!:thanks:

Try hammered finish.

I believe this paint is also available locally.

Thank you sir JayL! But I want a smooth finish too. Something like a semi gloss latex finish but for steel.

Sometimes if I want like this finish I custom mix. I ask the paint shop for gloss then add up some flat to it to lessen the shine. I don't know if it will work for you.

I remember I used this before to paint a compressor to mimic Ingersoll Rand's color. Not shinny not flat using acrylic lacquer paint if I recall correctly.

I think there are different types of clear coats which range from high gloss to flat. But these are acrylics/ lacquers.

Kung semi-gloss finish you can use semi-gloss enamel just mixed with tinting colorant to achieve your desired color.

Thanks for the responses sirs! I want a dark brown color similar to the Boysen Chocolate Brown enamel. I don't think I can use that much tinting color sa white semi gloss enamel or else I might ruin the paint right?

You have to consider the texture of the metal or steel surface. If it is naturally rough then you may have to use fillers to achieve smoothness and to help w/ the sheen you want. Choose your medium, Lacquer or Acrylic. The latter is more durable but a lil higher on cost. Sheen is controlled by combining Gloss w/ flattening agents or high solids and thinned according to the method of application whether spray or brush. Do some tests mixes in small amounts and gauge the mixing ratio of the paint cocktail so you may be able to use that on volume mixing. However, as per my experience, not all mixing ratios are the same. You may have to adjust a little when the volume increases and also paint may behave differently per brand quality. Also you might need to add retarder or flo especially this time of the year. Good luck.
