Re: Skim Coating

For new chb, plastering then straight to finishing using pure cement para makinis. Used cemex palitada king or lafarge wallmaster. Don't leave naka rough finished yun wall then the next day i-finish ng cement. Hindi po maganda kapit ng cement.

Type N masonry cement like Palidata King & Lafarge wallmaster is much cheaper than skimcoat. P215-P220/ bags (40kg) of cement vs. P290/(25kg) bag of skim coat.

For my ongoing project I will be using Lafarge Wallmaster its a Type N Masonry Cement intended for Plastering (palitada), chb laying & filling (asintada at palaman).

Before I was using Cemex Palitada King but I'm having a hard time looking for a hardware near my area who can supply me. That's why I switched to Lafarge new product "Wallmaster".

Why to use Wallmaster vs ordinary cement.
FEATURES BENEFITS
Micro-fillers fill in voids and pores---------> Ultra-smooth finish

Lighter and stickier plaster----------------> Ease of use, faster works

Regulates hydration and drying---------> Minimizes cracking due to shrinkage

Cost: Lafarge Wallmaster ---->P215
Ordinary Cement-------->P218-220
Savings:-------------------->P3-5/bag + the benefits of wallmaster

Take note that Lafarge Wallmaster & Cemex Palitada King is for plastering & chb laying only. Not for concrete beams, columns, slab and footing.

sir, so your not using skim coat? how do you prep walls for painting? Thanks for your inputs!:)

Re: Skim Coating

Wall preparation prior to painting will be depends on the paint that you will using. Follow your manufacturer preparation procedure. What specific paint and brand you will be using?

actually sir i don't know yet what to use, I'm still on the plastering stage. my foreman suggested plastering with pure cement then skim coat (skip concrete naturalizer) then primer then 2 coats ng preferred color daw.

I suggest plastering with pure cement. If you can get those type N Masonry cement for plastering the better.

Plastering/finishing with pure cement kung even yun pagkafinish ng wall halos hindi mo na kailangan ng skimcoat. Gamitan mo na lang ng concrete neutralizer ---->Primer -----> Putty
--->Prime-----> 2 -3 coats ng paint.

Pag wavy and uneven yun pagkaplaster ng wall. And you think na mas magastos gamitan ng wall putty para mapantay yun wall. First thing to do is magpalit ka ng mason. :D:D
Then use skim coat.

Re: Skim Coating

that's what my foreman told me pala, if we'll use skim coat we can skip concrete neutralizer, primer and putty. he suggest skim coat--> prime-->2-3 coats color paint.

in terms of quality and budget, which do you think is a better option?

Thanks sir!

p.s I saw your designs and it's a gorgeous creation.:)

Re: Skim Coating

question lang. we've been using Skim coat (island super kinis) with good results, basically, to make up for wall defects by mediocre masons. My question is, is skim coat a cost effective solution for plastering? or its much affordable to go with La farge Wallmaster / Cemex palitada king?

Kung magplastering ng CHB wall using cement and sand then skimcoat mas magastos.

Im using skimcoat only on exposed beams, underside of slab, columns omitting the process of plastering diretso skimcoat.

I believe his right. Been with the same situation and it makes sense to skip the palitada and go ahead with the skim coat..consider the time, cost of material, cost of labor. House painting was completed using skim coat. It went well.

Re: Skim Coating

Guys, I have an irregular wall that needs filling up as thick as 10mm on some areas to flatten it, is skim coating advisable?

Mga sir, question lang, pwede ba skim coat as top coat na? after kong i rough ng palitada nag apply nako ng skimcoat, then after two days nag uulan at hindi naman natinag yung skimmed na finish, the problem is parang may lumilitaw na stain yung pader na skim coated pag basa. pero pag tuyo na bumabalik sya dun sa original white color na mapino, may ginawa na rin kasi kami sa camella na pagtapos ng asintada eh rekta skim coat agad ang it worked out naman.

sirs,

if Palitada King/Wallmaster ang gagamitin makinis na rin di ba?pwede ba diretso paint na to hindi na gagamit ng concrete neutralizer? or yung skim coat lang yung hindi gagamit ng neutralizer?
paano ang mix ng Palitada King/Wallmaster?
