so, i'm on the process of finishing my house and i decided to use a wood gate with metal frame (1.5inc sched40 G.I pipe).
i like the natural look if the wood, including all the 'damage' and imperfections..now my question is, how can i protect the wood from the elements while maintaining the natural look/color?
i was thinking multiple coats of polyurethane, but my painter suggested xyladecor. any feedback?

btw, the metal frame will be painted flat black after proper sealing and primer.
