I have been reading a lot from the threads and sometimes posting questions for a while. Right now, we have started to build our house and i decided to make a thread to serve as a journal for me and to share what is happening...

Re: this is it! building our house

Deciding on labor:
i was left to choose from pakyaw labor or arawan. I even started a thread for that.
After reading all your comments and consulting some friends and my wallet... i decided arawan. My laborer was recommended by a family friend. They have a business, and sya ang on-call nila. Sya din gumawa ng bahay ng ilan sa employees ng friend ko. On call din sya sa dmci. Another factor is that the construction site is at the back of our house. So morning, lunch and afternoon i can check on them.

Congrats and good luck ...... yup, clearing and hauling of debris are often overlooked during construction.

Re: this is it! building our house

Week1: march 17-22
Excavation. Mano-mano kami lahat. I have 6 workers. Lot area is 45 sq.m. lng but 2 storeys.
We had setbacks dito pa lng coz 3 out of 6 columns either may tinamaan na poste ng kapitbahay(lagpas footing nila sa property line) or may lumang septic tank kaya mejo natagalan. By the end of the week, 3 column rebars na nakatayo. May buhos na din footing. Remaining 3 columns to be continued na nxt week.
Bad trip pa nung saturday, umuulan pa. Di tuloy masyado makagalaw.

Re: this is it! building our house

Things i learnd from sourcing my supplies:
1. Be patient. I checked on all suppliers i can think of. From the local hardwares to online to yellow pages to direct manufacturer/warehouse. Tyaga lng tlga just to find the lowest price. Due diligence din coz some seem mas mura pero patay ka naman sa delivery charge.
2. Estimate. Para makaorder in bulk for discounts. Laking tulong ng mga estimate computations ng mga master natin dito sa phm. Since may plano naman yung house, mas madali magcompute.
3. Be updated on prices. Kami kc ni misis everytime nsa mall we look at hardwares lalo na pag sale. Minsan kasi mas mura pag nakasale. But you really have to know what you need and the prices.

Re: this is it! building our house

Hi all, just joined this community today as I'm also planning on starting to build our house in the next 1-2 months. Right now, I'm still at the stage of finalizing the design with my archi and engineer friends. I'll try to read and be updated at all the threads related to house construction as I know I will learn a lot and be more prepared when the day comes that I start to build our house. All the best in your project 🙂 ...
