Hey guys,

I'm planning to install tiles on my floor. As I want to experience doing it on my own (and I'm a cheap bastard, hehe), what is the most effective adhesive for ceramic tiles? Some said its tile adhesive but some say ordinary portland cement will do. And what is the best mixture formula for the adhesive? Do I have to add sand or cement and water would be okay? Thanks in advance.

Use tile adhesive, they are perfect for ceramic tiles unlike the portland cement. No need to add fine sand, just add water to make a thick pasty consistency, then spread it evenly on the floor if using the large size ceramic tiles or at the back of each tile for smaller sizes.

Anyway you will find the instructions printed on the 25 klg bag of the of the tile adhesive like the Eurotile brand.

Hope this helps !!;)

If you have a RAW concrete subfloor Try using Baufix or ABC ordinary Tile adhesive...its like 250PHP per bag of 25KGS...if your floor has a tile already you can use Premium grade ABC tile adhesive like 500PHP per bag...no need to remove the old tiles...just cover it with the adhesive and fix your new tile over it.

The diffence between tile adhesive to ordinary portland is that tile adhesive has already a sand + cement + a bonding agent....when you use ordinary portland you need to mix it with sand in order to ease your spreading ....pure cement mixture is very hard to spread....most local mason prefer portland + sand mix because it will dry faster than tile adhesive...but if you are into DIY its better to use adhesive...

DIY is fun you need to buy a trowel with a bigger teeth like 10 mm...for spreading your mixture...I use a rubber mallet to hammer the tile for secure bond...need a BAR Level....to make sure your tiles would be Level to your floor...
