Hello guys, this is my first post here in this forum.
Anyway, were building a two floor office/storage area, and im in the process of finishing my roof trusses and purlins.
Im about to order my GI roofs from APO, those pre-painted roofs seems to save me some labor cost on painting. anyway im wondering about the insulation to be used.
most of the time im seeing the PE foam is sandwiched between the roofing material and the C-purlins. now i forgot where i read it, but some say there should be a gap between the roofing and the insulation. im kinda confused and dont know what to follow.
any expert advices would be greatly appreciated on the correct way of installing this insulation. 🙂
Re: Using PE foam as roof insulation
HI there TangoJuliet,
I can give you some tips on the insulation and installation but rather you get the information from bro ernie_serrano, he is our shall we say ceiling installation expert here. Hope he logs in tonight and share a complete info regarding your plan. But for starters, you may google the topic in the net and hopefully by doing so will give you some insights regarding its proper installation. 😉
OH by the way, a little OT here, it would be nice if you could introduce yourself first in the "Member Introduction", though this is not a rule here but we would like also to know you or just know somethings about your interest or hobbies, where are you connected and located, with family or single, simple info will do and nothing personal so that the Admins can sort of formally welcome you. Hope you don't mind. :p:)

oh sorry i fail to read the rules, anyway i posted in the new members sections just now. 🙂
Re: Using PE foam as roof insulation
Haven't tried this yet it would make a big differenceif you put space in between the roof itself and the insulation. But it would be useless if you cannot channel the hot air between the roof and insulation.
Re: Using PE foam as roof insulation
thanks for your reply, anyway ive proceeded with the build. What i did was to sandwich the PE foam between the G.I. corrugated roofing and the C-purlins. Looks okay naman, medyo hindi naman tumatagos yung heat. Also ive designed the roof to have a top vent, since hot air rises it will not be trapped within the ceiling and will escape outside.
Re: Using PE foam as roof insulation
Leaving an air gap between the insulator and roof can improve its performance, also it case of roof leaks it can avoid water from being trapped between the roof and insulator, and might slow down rust/corrosion. It's more of a hassle in installation though.
Dumb mistakes will always be dumb mistakes, unless . . . . you learn from it, and then it will be learning experience.
Re: Using PE foam as roof insulation
I think the purpose of the space is for the heat to not transfer to the aluminum. Aluminum is there to reflect heat by reflecting the sun. However if it touches the roof then it wll absorb its heat.
Pls correct me if im wrong
