I need to install a window type AC in a room where there is no provision for an AC Install. I will need to make a hole for it in the wall. What is a good way to do this? Normal building wall.

It's in a 4th floor so it's a problem to access from the outside. Work should be done from the inside.

The AC will also need angle bar brackets but I don't think that will be a problem for me to fab in the metal shop.... 🙂 Most probably I will make it in a way so i can be fastened from the inside or in the hole itself.

Any other tips will be appreciated.

Nahawa na rin yata ako ke Bro Ryobi .... ayoko na rin magbayad ng labor ...tutal me helper naman dito sa haus .... LOL

Re: Window Ac Install

If you have difficulty in the outside access, how would you install the metal brackets, from the inside?

Re: Window Ac Install

You will also need to think of a way to secure the site so that the debris will not fall to the other side.

Re: Window Ac Install

Bro JayL,

JayL, the BIGGEST hassle that I can see in the install project is the provision of the AC hole on the concrete wall. I t will for sure be very noisy, dirty and dusty every where since you will be using rotary hammer drills and chiesels to remove the concrete. 😉

When it comes to the fabrication of the AC grilles, you can easily do that. Just make sure to do your measurements twice just to be exact ba . Gawa ka na lang ng AC brackets that can be fasten from the inside, then you can slide out your angle bar grilles which can also be fastened from the inside,;)

Re: Window Ac Install

Maybe bro I will also use an angle grinder with a diamond blade to cut the ac hole perimeter. Moji suggested this for a cleaner cut hole.

It's better to have a vacuum ready for the dust.

Re: Window Ac Install

Or like I asked previously, do it internally like Singaporeans do it in their high-rise condos..

*never mind the timber panel

Re: Window Ac Install

That would be one option too Jarod ... thanks for posting a pic.

Better then I won't work on the brackets till after the hole is done. Means hole is there and the sides re cemented.

Yes that is right, for a sharp and cleaner cut on the concrete you will need a diamond blade and still there will be lots and lots of dust and concrete debris so be ready for vacuum cleaner, walis tambo and damp cloths or basahan. I've done that kind of job so many times when I was renovating my dirty kitchen annex. Be prepared to wear your 3M mask aspirator, mapapalaban ka ng todo, no doubt about it. :stone:

Maybe it could have been better or easier if your AC is the ceiling type or the floor type unit, copper tubings lang ang lalabas ng concrete wall, hahahahaha 😀 :massbounce: Bro pinaka masarap gamitin na pang cut ng concrete ay 7" power angle grinder fitted with a 7" diamond blade, dyan mo talaga ma fi feel yung torque ng grinder, malakas sumipa pag na turn on.

Re: Window Ac Install

Aren't ceiling/ floor type ac's considered split type already? Those are more expensive than window types.

Re: Window Ac Install

JayL, how thick is the concrete wall? If its thick enough you might get away without the need for metal brackets.

Our wall is around 7 inches thick. The opening is just big enough for the aircon's cabinet, plus half an inch or so. I secured the cabinet to the hole using screws and concrete fasteners, making sure the screw heads don't get in the way when I slide the aircon in.

I'll take a picture later if I get the chance.

BTW, its installed in the 2nd floor bedroom. Did all the work without the need to extend any part of my body outside. 🙂
