Hi,
I noticed that there are cases where the installers don't use the provided brackets specially in really high rooms where an overly long ladders should be used.
In most cases, this kind of installation is used when the mounting hole is a rectangular bore on a concrete wall with about 8" or more of thickness. What they do is mount screws at the bottom and on one side of the casing.
I myself got surpised when our .5 hp air was installed this way. Can a 1.5 hp ac hold up to this kind of installation?
Re: Window type AC installation
Hey bro spyghost,
This post of yours is almost a month old but sorry nobody is answering or giving a comment but let me do the honors.
I am just trying to imagine how your AC had been installed. If its my air con, for my peace of mind I'd install or add a supporting bracket under the air con even though the wall thickness is 8" just in case there will be some movement or the unit gets displaced. I will not depend solely on the screws, mabuti na iyong sigurado and putting things in safety. ๐ :p
Now I cannot say much coz we don't use an air conditioner in the house, electric fans will suffice since mahangin dito sa place ko. ๐

Re: Window type AC installation
if the clearance is not more than .25 in., an 8 in. think wall can hold it up since the only way it will fall is if you will push it hard out. but for 1.5 hp above, it would be better to use the bracket for added protection considering that more than half of the body is not supported anymore.. my cent

Safety first. ๐
Re: Window type AC installation
Yep. Good for aircons to have housings. Not only for safety but also for security. More difficult to steal or use as entry by burglars.
A little OT:
BTW, according to an MMDA-commissioned study, we have a strong 7.2 magnitude earthquake every 200-400 years on the West Valley fault line which pretty much affects the entire Metro-Manila, and points North and South. The last one was 200 years ago so we are in the threshold of another.
It would be good to secure as much of your furniture or fittings likely to fall. Suggest you also put a strap on all LPG tanks as the study indicates that fires after the earthquake is likely due to unsecured gas tanks rolling around.
