Hi masters,

Here is my situation: in my room i have lots of remote controls and wireless keyboard.(for dvd/tv/mediaplayer/laptop/desktop/htpc/speakers) i want to set up an acrylic shelf. in the corner of my room just above my bed. so whenever i need to use a remote i can easily retrieve it without standing up(lazyness).

why acrylic?: a colorless acrylic will be helpful so i can see from under what remote i must use.
i know its kinda lazy but i think this is helpful for me, especially after work before i go to bed this will help me relax a little bit more.

Questions:
a. how thick would be the acrylic needed for my shelf? (went to diovir in recto. the sheet is too thin and bend easily.)
b. proper way to drill a hole in the acrylic.
c. i found a pair of (i dont know what it is called) it is for the cabinet type server. where it you use it to screw the servers to the server cabinet. its like a metal bent at 45 degrees with 2 holes at both ends (hope you imagined what im trying to explain) will try to upload picture later. where can i buy this stuff?

TIA

-Paolo

Hey bro Paolo,

Another alternative if you can't find a thick acrylic sheet, opt for a 1/4" or 3/8" tempered glass, you can buy them also at glass and aluminum stores in Binondo or Cubao. You can ask them to cut it to your size specification, have the edges grinded to achieve or have those soft or rounded edges and perhaps ask them too to drill holes on the glass on specific locations so all you have to do when you get home it just to attach it to your shelf above your headboard.

Maybe this could be an option !! :fetch1:

Re: acrylic sheet as shelf

@sir coolmaxheric
thanks. that's an effortless solution. Nice!
but it has some downfall. it will wear and tear as time goes by and can it support a wireless keyboard?(I don't know the weight).but still a nice solution. maybe I'm going to try that in other way. thanks for the input.
@sir rosy thanks for the input.
last Sunday when I passed by a glass/aluminum store and inquire about acrylic, the staff offered me the tampered glass. looks more sturdy and it looks like can accommodate heavy stuff rather than acrylic.
I prefer to drill holes on my own. is more difficult than acrylic or almost the same, can I do it with rotary tool? is it bendable when heated? ( so that I can make wave forms or designs {thin sheets}) and regarding bonding it with itself aside from screws? does acrylic cement works?

thanks masters. I do appreciate the help.

@coolmaxheric
on second thought, I can use that and stick it next to my tv so that its more neat looking. hmmm so the shelf can accommodate other stuff, and put only the remote that I currently use.
thanks again sir

If you prefer to drill holes yourself on the glass, you have to buy special bit for glass. I've seen some at DIY Shops and some hardware malls. Prices for each bit, sorry I can't recall any more.

Hope this helps !! 😉

Re: acrylic sheet as shelf

I think any tape, velcro included, will come off when it gets warm..
Keep in mind lang kung saan ip-place..

About wear and tear, It comes with 2 set of straps..
Di ko pa nagagamit yung isa.. 🙂
I remember it's 200+ pesos, so hindi ako masyado manghihinayang.. 😉

Industrial strength yun binili ko sir ee I think kaya nya..
Natapon ko kasi yung lagyanan nya ee so i don't have the specific weight.. hehe

About sa acyrlic sheet/tampered glass shelf project nyo, post ka pics bro pag tapos na..
Interested to do the same thing, but it'll be for display for my mom's MINI ME doll 🙂
Goodluck and :thanks:
